Isaiah 12:1
And in that day thou shalt say, O LORD, I will praise thee: though thou wast angry with me, thine anger is turned away, and thou comfortedst me.

1). Isaiah 12 is associated with the feast of Tabernacles.
a). During Sukkot anticipation for the arrival of the Messiah reaches its height. The prophet Zechariah speaks of a time when God will fight and defend His people when the nations gather against Israel (Zech 14:1-9). After God establishes peace, all the nations will then travel to Jerusalem to worship God during Sukkot (Zech 14:16). God promises to withhold rain from those countries which do not honor Him in Jerusalem (14:17-19). 1). Isaiah 12 is looking forward to the time of the Messiah, so chronologically this would be after the second advent of Christ. The wrath had been carried out on the cross and because of that we have peace with God.
a). Romans 4:22-5:2 [NKJV] And therefore “it was accounted to him for righteousness.” 4:23 Now it was not written for his sake alone that it was imputed to him, 4:24 But also for us. It shall be imputed to us who believe in Him who raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead, 4:25 Who was delivered up because of our offenses, and was raised because of our justification. 5:1 Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 5:2 through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.
2). God’s anger has been turned away, He took His anger out on Jesus.
a). Romans 8:3 For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:
3). Jesus bore our sin on the cross so that we might have His righteousness.
a). 2 Corinthians 5:21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
4). It was my sin He was made, He was judged for my sin.
a). Isaiah 53:5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.
b). Isaiah 53:6 “…and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.”
c). Romans 5:1 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:
5). Romans 5:1 declares that because we have been justified by faith we have peace with God, but Jesus bore the chastisement due for us that we might have the peace of God.
a). Isaiah 53:5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.
6). Because of the sacrifice of Christ God is at peace with all of humanity. If we look closely at Romans 5:1 along with Romans 8:33 that declares, “It is God that justifieth:”, we see that it was not my faith that justifies us, it was God’s faith. We were justified by the shedding of Christ’s blood not by our faith.
a). Romans 5:9 Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.
3). We enter into this grace of being justified and at peace by faith when we got born again.
a). Romans 5:2 By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.
3. “…and thou comfortedst me.”
a. 1). Some of the promises the prophets wrote about in the old testament concern the New Covenant since the resurrection of Christ.
a). 1 Peter 1:10-12 [NKJV] Of this salvation the prophets have inquired and searched carefully, who prophesied of the grace that would come to you, 1:11 searching what, or what manner of time, the Spirit of Christ who was in them was indicating when He testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ and the glories that would follow.
1:12 To them it was revealed that, not to themselves, but to us they were ministering the things which now have been reported to you through those who have preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven—things which angels desire to look into.
b). Luke 24:25-27 [NKJV] Then He said to them, “O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken! 24:22 Ought not the Christ to have suffered these things and to enter into His glory?” 24:27 And beginning at Moses and all the Prophets, He expounded to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself.
2). God is the God of all comfort.
a). 2 Corinthians 1:3 Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort;
3). He will comfort us through the Scriptures.
a). Romans 15:4 For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.
b). Psalm 119:49-52 Remember the word unto thy servant, upon which thou hast caused me to hope.
119:50 This is my comfort in my affliction: for thy word hath quickened me.
119:51 The proud have had me greatly in derision: yet have I not declined from thy law.
119:52 I remembered thy judgments of old, O LORD; and have comforted myself.
4). He will comfort us through the Holy Ghost.
a). John 16:7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.
5). Isaiah 12 is also Messianic in that it points to the time when Israel will again be completely in fellowship with God after the second coming of Christ. This conclusion is arrived at by simply looking at the language and not exclusively spiritualizing it to apply to the church. Notice the following passage that prophecies the restoration of Israel to her God.
a). Ezekiel 36:25-30 Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you.
36:26 A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh.
36:27 And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them.
36:28 And ye shall dwell in the land that I gave to your fathers; and ye shall be my people, and I will be your God.
36:29 I will also save you from all your uncleannesses: and I will call for the corn, and will increase it, and lay no famine upon you.
36:30 And I will multiply the fruit of the tree, and the increase of the field, that ye shall receive no more reproach of famine among the heathen.
Isaiah 12:2
Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid: for the LORD JEHOVAH is my strength and my song; he also is become my salvation.

Institute of Creation Research Daily Devotional 8/20/11: The English name, usually written "Lord" in the English Bibles, stems from the Hebrew word Yahweh, the meaning of which cannot be fully put into words. Although scholars differ (some even claiming there is no real meaning to the word at all), the consensus is that it seems to be a compound of the three tenses of the Hebrew verb "to be," implying the ever living nature of God to which Christ was referring when He said, "I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty" (Revelation 1:8). Note also the similar implications in God's announcement of Himself to Moses: "And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM" (Exodus 3:14). On forty-nine special occasions (seven times seven), the name Jehovah is contracted to Jah. Many consider this to be an abbreviation of Jehovah, but no satisfactory explanation as to why it is so used has been offered. Perhaps a better suggestion is that this name is the present tense of the verb "to be," and therefore the name Jah emphasizes the present activity of the Lord. In nearly all occurrences, the passages are strengthened by noting the present work of God. The first usage of the term Jah is found in Miriam's Song upon deliverance from Pharaoh's army and the Red Sea. "The LORD [Jah] is my strength and song, and he is become my salvation" (Exodus 15:2). On several occasions, such as in our text, we see that the two names are combined, celebrating both the present and future deliveries of Jah Jehovah. 2). Institute Of Creation Research Daily Devotional 7/18/14 This beautiful verse is in the midst of a psalm of praise for God’s deliverance of His people “in that day” (v. 4)—the coming day when the Lord shall return to the earth and reign “in the midst of thee” (v. 6). Until “that day” comes, however, we can appropriate its spiritual blessings right now.
The word translated “wells” is more often translated “fountains,” denoting flowing springs of water that never run dry. It is first used at the time of the great Flood when in one “day were all the fountains of the great deep broken up” (Genesis 7:11). On that day, the primeval fountains provided by God for the perpetual supply of living waters to the inhabitants of the “very good” world He had created were cleaved open, the living waters became lethal waters, and “all that was in the dry land, died” (v. 22). But one day another fountain was cleaved open. As Jesus died on the cross, “a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came there out blood and water” (John 19:34). At the great Feast of Tabernacles, He had cried: “If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. He that believeth on me . . . out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water” (John 7:37-38). The blood and water flowed together from the deep fountain opened in the Savior’s side that day, and their cleansing powers became a fountain of life to all who will drink. The waters again became living waters from a fountain that will never run dry, “a pure river of water of life . . . proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb” (Revelation 22:1). Then, wonder of wonders, there is not just one well, for all who believe likewise send forth “rivers of living water,” as with eternal joy, we each share with one another, forever drinking from the never-drying wells of salvation! 3). Last week we concluded the celebration of the week-long feast of Sukkot, or the Feast of Tabernacles. The holiday concludes the three pilgrimage festivals in the Jewish calendar (Exodus 23:14-17). During this time the Jewish community builds temporary shelters (sukkot) to remind each generation that their forefathers lived as nomads, wandering in the desert for forty years (Leviticus 23:42-43). The Torah also refers to this holiday as the Feast of Ingathering, which celebrates the final reaping of the crops at the end of the harvest (Exodus 23:16). Throughout the holiday it is customary to wave the Lulav and Etrog, or the four species (date palm, myrtle, willow, citron), representing thankfulness and joy for the present harvest, along with hope for winter rains, ensuring an abundant harvest the following spring (Leviticus 23:40). The waving of the Lulav and Etrog also represents God’s pervasive presence and the unity of the Jewish people. In the first century the priests gathered a pitcher of water from the pool of Shiloach (Siloam) and poured it out on the altar, following an elaborate processional up the hill to the Temple mount. This ceremony occurred every day of the festival, with the most extravagant processional on final day. The pouring out expressed Israel’s hope for future rains to produce an abundant harvest. According to the Talmud this tradition derived from Isaiah 12:3, “with joy you shall draw water from the water of salvation.” On the last day of Sukkot, possibly at the time of this processional, Jesus stood in the midst of the people and declared, “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me, and let the one who believes in me drink. Just as the scripture says, From within him will flow rivers of living water” (John 7:37-38). When he said this, some declared, “This is the Messiah” (John 7:41). Isaiah 12:4
And in that day shall ye say, Praise the LORD, call upon his name, declare his doings among the people, make mention that his name is exalted.
