And they departed from Rephidim, and pitched in the wilderness of Sinai.

1. “And they departed from Rephidim…”

a. [And they] departed [Strong: 5265 nâçaʻ, naw-sah'; a primitive root; properly, to pull up, especially the tent-pins, i.e. start on a journey:—cause to blow, bring, get, (make to) go (away, forth, forward, onward, out), (take) journey, march, remove, set aside (forward), × still, be on his (go their) way.] [The KJV translates Strong's H5265 in the following manner: journey (41x), departed (30x), remove (28x), forward (18x), went (8x), go away (3x), brought (3x), set forth (2x), go forth (3x), get (1x), set aside (1x), miscellaneous (8x).]

b. [from] Rephidim [Strong: 7508 Rᵉphîydîym, ref-ee-deem'; plural of the masculine of the same as H7507; ballusters; Rephidim, a place in the Desert:—Rephidim.] [The KJV translates Strong's H7508 in the following manner: Rephidim (5x).]

1). It was while Israel was camped at Rephidim that they received water out of the rock the first time and also they battled Amalek. It does not give the amount of time Israel spent at Rephidim. They went from Rephidim to Sinai.

2. “...and pitched in the wilderness of Sinai.”

a. [and] pitched [Strong: 2583 chânâh, khaw-naw'; a primitive root (compare H2603); properly, to incline; by implication, to decline (of the slanting rays of evening); specifically, to pitch a tent; generally to encamp (for abode or siege):—abide (in tents), camp, dwell, encamp, grow to an end, lie, pitch (tent), rest in tent.] [The KJV translates Strong's H2583 in the following manner: pitch (78x), encamp (47x), camp (4x), pitch ... tent (4x), abide (3x), dwelt (2x), lie (2x), rested (2x), grows to an end (1x).]

b. [in the] wilderness [Strong: 4057  midbâr, mid-bawr'; from H1696 in the sense of driving; a pasture (i.e. open field, whither cattle are driven); by implication, a desert; also speech (including its organs):—desert, south, speech, wilderness.] [The KJV translates Strong's H4057 in the following manner: wilderness (255x), desert (13x), south (1x), speech (1x), wilderness (with H776) (1x).]

c. [of] Sinai [Strong: 5514 Çîynay, see-nah'-ee; of uncertain derivation; Sinai, mountain of Arabia:—Sinai.] [The KJV translates Strong's H5514 in the following manner: Sinai (35x).]

1). They were at Sinai just short of a year. Adam Clarke: 11 months 20 days; John Gill 12 months minus 10 days. 

a). Exodus 19:1 In the third month, when the children of Israel were gone forth out of the land of Egypt, the same day came they into the wilderness of Sinai.

b). Numbers 10:11, 12 And it came to pass on the twentieth day of the second month, in the second year, that the cloud was taken up from off the tabernacle of the testimony.

10:12 And the children of Israel took their journeys out of the wilderness of Sinai; and the cloud rested in the wilderness of Paran.

c). While at Sinai Moses received the Law, the instructions on building the Tabernacle, and built it; instructions on the priesthood, including all the garments  and instructions on the sacrifices. They did not leave Sinai until the Tabernacle was constructed and the Aaronic Priesthood established (Exodus 40:33; Numbers 10:11, 12).

2). Included in their time at Mount Sinai is all the material from Exodus 19:1-Numbers 10:11 for that is when Israel left Sinai (Numbers 10:11, 12). But we must also include all the material in Exodus 18, because in the first five verses of that chapter describing the arrival of Jethro and Moses' family to Moses, he was encamped at Sinai.

 a). Exodus 18:1-5 When Jethro, the priest of Midian, Moses' father in law, heard of all that God had done for Moses, and for Israel his people, and that the Lord had brought Israel out of Egypt;

18:2 Then Jethro, Moses' father in law, took Zipporah, Moses' wife, after he had sent her back,

18:3 And her two sons; of which the name of the one was Gershom; for he said, I have been an alien in a strange land:

18:4 And the name of the other was Eliezer; for the God of my father, said he, was mine help, and delivered me from the sword of Pharaoh:

18:5 And Jethro, Moses' father in law, came with his sons and his wife unto Moses into the wilderness, where he encamped at the mount of God:
