For these are not drunken, as ye suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of the day.

1. “For these are not drunken, as ye suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of the day.”

a. For [Strong: 1063. gar gar a primary particle; properly, assigning a reason (used in argument, explanation or intensification; often with other particles):--and, as, because (that), but, even, for, indeed, no doubt, seeing, then, therefore, verily, what, why, yet.]

d. drunken [Strong: 3184. methuo meth-oo'-o from another form of 3178; to drink to intoxication, i.e. get drunk:--drink well, make (be) drunk(-en).]

e. as [Strong: 5613. hos hoce probably adverb of comparative from 3739; which how, i.e. in that manner (very variously used, as follows):--about, after (that), (according) as (it had been, it were), as soon (as), even as (like), for, how (greatly), like (as, unto), since, so (that), that, to wit, unto, when(-soever), while, X with all speed.]

f. ye [Strong: 5210. humeis hoo-mice' irregular plural of 4771; you (as subjective of verb):--ye (yourselves), you.]

g. suppose [Strong: 5274. hupolambano hoop-ol-am-ban'-o from 5259 and 2983; to take from below, i.e. carry upward; figuratively, to take up, i.e. continue a discourse or topic; mentally, to assume (presume):--answer, receive, suppose.]

1). Sometimes when the Spirit of the Lord comes upon people they will appear as drunk.

a). 1 Kings 8:10, 11 And it came to pass, when the priests were come out of the holy place, that the cloud filled the house of the Lord,

8:11 So that the priests could not stand to minister because of the cloud: for the glory of the Lord had filled the house of the Lord.

b). Exodus 40:34, 35 Then a cloud covered the tent of the congregation, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle.

40:35 And Moses was not able to enter into the tent of the congregation, because the cloud abode thereon, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle.

c). Luke 9:28-32 And it came to pass about an eight days after these sayings, he took Peter and John and James, and went up into a mountain to pray.

9:29 And as he prayed, the fashion of his countenance was altered, and his raiment was white and glistering.

9:30 And, behold, there talked with him two men, which were Moses and Elias:

9:31 Who appeared in glory, and spake of his decease which he should accomplish at Jerusalem.

9:32 But Peter and they that were with him were heavy with sleep: and when they were awake, they saw his glory, and the two men that stood with him.

2). The presence of the Lord is wonderful, far surpassing fleshly pleasure.

a). Ephesians 5:18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;

m. day [Strong: 2250. hemera hay-mer'-ah feminine (with 5610 implied) of a derivative of hemai (to sit; akin to the base of 1476) meaning tame, i.e. gentle; day, i.e. (literally) the time space between dawn and dark, or the whole 24 hours (but several days were usually reckoned by the Jews as inclusive of the parts of both extremes); figuratively, a period (always defined more or less clearly by the context):--age, + alway, (mid-)day (by day, (-ly)), + for ever, judgment, (day) time, while, years.]
