And afterward all the children of Israel came nigh: and he gave them in commandment all that the LORD had spoken with him in mount Sinai.

1. “And afterward all the children of Israel came nigh…”

g. [in] mount [Strong: 2022 har har a shortened form of 2042; a mountain or range of hills (sometimes used figuratively):--hill (country), mount(-ain), X promotion.]


h. Sinai [Strong: 5514 Ciynay see-nah'-ee of uncertain derivation; Sinai, mountain of Arabia:--Sinai.]

1). When Moses went into the tabernacle and into the presence of the LORD. The glory of God came upon Moses so that his face shone with the glory of God.  The Apostle Paul said that the glory of God in the New Covenant was so much superior than the glory of the Mosaic Law that it was like no glory at all. Apparently Moses putting a vail on his face put the Jewish people under a curse because the Apostle Paul writing over a thousand years later said that same vail was upon the heart of the Jewish people.


a). 2 Corinthians 3:13-15 And not as Moses, which put a veil over his face, that the children of Israel could not stedfastly look to the end of that which is abolished:

3:14 But their minds were blinded: for until this day remaineth the same vail untaken away in the reading of the old testament; which vail is done away in Christ.

3:15 But even unto this day, when Moses is read, the vail is upon their heart.


2). Notice closely what it says in verse 13, the vail prevented Israel from looking “to the end of that which is abolished.” This was a direct reference to the eventual giving way of the Law to the New Covenant in Christ Jesus.


a). Romans 10:4 For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that be lieveth.


3). As eye popping as some of the manifestations of the Old Covenant was, Paul wrote under the inspiration of the Holy ghost that the glory of the New Covenant was much greater than the Old Covenant. (See notes on 2 Corinthians 3:7.)


a). 2 Corinthians 3:7-11  But if the ministration of death, written and engraven in stones, was glorious, so that the children of Israel could not stedfastly behold the face of Moses for the glory of his countenance; which glory was to be done away:

3:8 How shall not the ministration of the spirit be rather glorious?

3:9 For if the ministration of condemnation be glory, much more doth the ministration of righteousness exceed in glory.

3:10 For even that which was made glorious had no glory in this respect, by reason of the glory that excelleth.

3:11 For if that which is done away was glorious, much more that which remaineth is glorious.
