And now, little children, abide in him; that, when he shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before him at his coming.

1. “And now, little children, abide in him; that, when he shall appear…”

a. And [Strong: 2532 kaí, kahee; apparently, a primary particle, having a copulative and sometimes also a cumulative force; and, also, even, so then, too, etc.; often used in connection (or composition) with other particles or small words:—and, also, both, but, even, for, if, or, so, that, then, therefore, when, yet.]

b. now [Strong: 3568 nŷn, noon; a primary particle of present time; "now" (as adverb of date, a transition or emphasis); also as noun or adjective present or immediate:—henceforth, + hereafter, of late, soon, present, this (time).

2. “...we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before him at his coming.”

1). Perry Stone: John reminds the believers to abide in Christ, as only those who are found abiding will be caught up to meet the Lord iat His coming.

2). I would add that those who don’t make it will be ashamed when He does come and they are left behind.
