Genesis 14:19

 

And he blessed him, and said, Blessed be Abram of the most high God, possessor of heaven and earth:

a. [And he] blessed him [Strong: 1288 barak baw-rak'; a primitive root; to kneel; by implication to bless God (as an act of adoration), and (vice-versa) man (as a benefit); also (by euphemism) to curse (God or the king, as treason):--X abundantly, X altogether, X at all, blaspheme, bless, congratulate, curse, X greatly, X indeed, kneel (down), praise, salute, X still, thank.]

1). Notice in particular the words spoken to Abram by Melchizedek. I can’t help but see this ceremony as the culmination of Covenant/vow that was mad previous to Abram going to rescue his nephew. The writer of Hebrews says that Melchizedek was greater than Abram.

 

a). Hebrews 7:7 “And without all contradiction the less is blessed of the better.”

 

b). After giving all of Melchizedek’s titles and qualifications he tells us, “Now consider how great this man was,” Hebrews 7:4.

 

2. “…possessor of heaven and earth.”

 

a. possessor [Strong: 7069 qanah kaw-naw'; a primitive root; to erect, i.e. create; by extension, to procure, especially by purchase (causatively, sell); by implication to own:--attain, buy(-er), teach to keep cattle, get, provoke to jealousy, possess(-or), purchase, recover, redeem, X surely, X verily.]

 

1). The LORD is the owner of the earth.

 

a). Psalm 50:10-12 For every beast of the forest is mine, and the cattle upon a  thousand hills.

50:11 I know all the fowls of the mountains: and the wild beasts of the field are mine.

50:12 If I were hungry, I would not tell thee: for the world is mine, and the fullness thereof.

 

b). Haggai 2:8 The silver is mine, and the gold is mine, saith the LORD of hosts.

 

b. [of] heaven [Strong: 8064 shamayim shaw-mah'-yim dual of an unused singular shameh {shaw-meh'}; from an unused root meaning to be lofty; the sky (as aloft; the dual perhaps alluding to the visible arch in which the clouds move, as well as to the higher ether where the celestial bodies revolve):--air, X astrologer, heaven(-s).]

 

c. [and] earth [Strong: 776 * erets] [Strong:  from an unused root probably meaning to be firm; the earth (at large, or partitively a land):--X common, country, earth, field, ground, land, X natins, way, + wilderness, world.]
