Genesis 3:6
And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and
that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise,
she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with
her; and he did eat.
a. NLT: The woman was convinced.
She saw that the tree was beautiful and its fruit looked delicious, and she
wanted the wisdom it would give her. So she took some of the fruit and ate it.
Then she gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it, too.
b. NIV: When the woman saw that
the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also
desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to
her husband, who was with her, and he ate it.
c. YLT: And the woman seeth that
the tree is good for food, and that it is pleasant to the eyes,

1. “And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food…”

1). In this one passage we can see
all the corruption of the world listed in 1 John 2:16. In this one passage we
see the three kinds of temptation that attack all three divisions of man,
spirit, soul, and body.
a). 1 John 2:16: For all that is
in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of
life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
2). This was an attack through lust
of the flesh, this attacks the body of man. It is possible that the serpent ate
some of the fruit for a demonstration to prove that she would not die and that
the fruit was good for food.
2. “…and that it was pleasant to the eyes…”
a. [and] that [Strong: 3588 kiy

ah'-yin probably a primitive word; an eye (literally or figuratively); by

1). The lust of the eyes, this
attacks the soul of man,.
a). 1 John 2:16 For all that is
in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of

very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit
and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus
Christ.
3. “…and a tree to be desired to make one wise.”

(give) skill(-ful), have good success, teach, (have, make to) understand(-ing),

4. “…she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat…”
a. she took [Strong: 3947 laqach
law-kakh' a primitive root; to take (in the widest variety of
applications):--accept, bring, buy, carry away, drawn, fetch, get, infold, X
many, mingle, place, receive(-ing), reserve, seize, send for, take (away, -ing,

b. of the fruit [thereof] [Strong:
6529 priy per-ee' from 6509; fruit (literally or figuratively):--bough,

c. and did eat [Strong: 398 'akal
aw-kal' a primitive root; to eat (literally or figuratively):--X at all, burn
up, consume, devour(-er, up), dine, eat(-er, up), feed (with), food, X freely,
X in...wise(-deed, plenty), (lay) meat, X quite.]
1). The fall of man did not occur
when Eve ate the fruit. 1 Timothy 2:14 can supply for us commentary on this
passage:
a). 1 Timothy 2:14 And Adam was
not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression.
2). Many twist that to mean that
it’s Eve’s fault for the fall, but that is not what its saying. What it is
really saying is that Eve was deceived into sinning against God, while Adam was
not deceived, he knew exactly what he was doing. While Eve must bear her fault
in the sin, The majority of the fault is on Adam, because he was not deceived.
He knew what he was doing. Adam had received a clear command from God.
a). Genesis 2:16, 17 And the LORD
God of the garden thou mayest freely eat:
2:17 But of the tree of the
knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou
eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.
5. “…and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did
eat.”

eesh contracted for 582 (or perhaps rather from an unused root meaning to be
extant); a man as an individual or a male person; often used as an adjunct to a
more definite term (and in such cases frequently not expressed in
translation):--also, another, any (man), a certain, + champion, consent, each,
every (one), fellow, (foot-, husband-)man, (good-, great, mighty) man, he, high
(degree), him (that is), husband, man(-kind), + none, one, people, person, +

d. with her [Strong: 5973 `im eem
from 6004; adverb or preposition, with (i.e. in conjunction with), in varied
applications; specifically, equally with; often with prepositional prefix (and
then usually unrepresented in English):--accompanying, against, and, as (X long
as), before, beside, by (reason of), for all, from (among, between), in, like,
more than, of, (un-)to, with(-al).]
e. and he did eat [Strong: 398 'akal
aw-kal' a primitive root; to eat (literally or figuratively):--X at all, burn

1). The fact that he was with her
plainly shows that Adam stood there and allowed his wife to be deceived. One of
the responsibilities of Adam was to protect the garden that God put him over,
and to protect his wife. It is obvious he was not fulfilling that responsibility.
a). ). Genesis 2:15 And the LORD
God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep
it.
b). keep [Strong: 8104 shamar
shaw-mar' a primitive root; properly, to hedge about (as with thorns), i.e.
guard; generally, to protect, attend to, etc.:--beward, be circumspect, take
heed (to self), keep(-er, self), mark, look narrowly, observe, preserve,
regard, reserve, save (self), sure, (that lay) wait (for), watch(-man).
2). It is impossible to cover under
one verse everything that occurred in this one act of disobedience, I will
attempt to do that with other notes. The main thing that occurred was Adam and Eve
died spiritually and the devil became their spiritual father and the devil also
became the “god of this world”. All of the maladies that have plagued mankind
in history can be traced back to this event. One particular result was Adam and
Eve became servants to the devil, a passage in Romans enlightens us as to one result
of the disobedience:
a). Romans 6:16 Know ye not that
to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye
obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?
3). Adam and Eve, in their one act
of disobedience became servants to Satan, but along with their disobedience a spiritual
law became a fixed part of man’s nature that would plague all of Adam and Eve’s
descendants, it is the law of sin and death described in Romans. As Paul writes
in the last verse of that passage outside of getting born again through a
relationship with Jesus Christ, there is no way to overcome that law.
a). Romans 7:14-25 (New King James
Version) For we know that the law is spiritual, but I am carnal, sold under
sin.
7:15 For what I am doing, I do not
understand. For what I will to do, that I do not practice; but what I hate,
that I do.
7:16 If, then, I do what I will
not to do, I agree with the law that it is good.
7:17 But now, it is no
longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me.
7:18 For I know that in me (that
is, in my flesh) nothing good dwells; for to will is present with me, but how
to perform what is good I do not find.
7:19 For the good that I will to
do, I do not do; but the evil I will not to do, that I practice.
7:20 Now if I do what I will not to
do, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me.
7:21 I find then a law, that evil
is present with me, the one who wills to do good.
7:22 For I delight in the law of
God according to the inward man.
7:23 But I see another law in my
members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to
the law of sin which is in my members.
7:24 O wretched man that I am! Who
will deliver me from this body of death?
7:25 I thank God—through Jesus
Christ our Lord! So then, with the mind I myself serve the law of God, but with
the flesh the law of sin.
4). What occurred at that moment
was a transfer of the authority and dominion that had been given to man was
given over to Satan. Adam and Eve yielded themselves in obedience to Satan,
therefore they became Satan’s servants. This transfer was recognized by Christ
Jesus during his temptation by the devil. This temptation was only made
possible because of Adam’s sin, for that is when the power and glory of the
kingdoms were “delivered” to him.
a). Luke 4:5-8 And the devil,
taking him up into an high mountain, shewed unto him all the kingdoms of the
world in a moment of time.
4:6 And the devil said unto him,
All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them: for that is delivered
unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it.
4:7 If thou therefore wilt worship
me, all shall be thine.
4:8 And Jesus answered and said
unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the
Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.
