Acts 13:4
So they, being sent forth by the
Holy Ghost, departed unto Seleucia; and from thence they sailed to Cyprus.
a. NLT: So Barnabas and Saul were
sent out by the Holy Spirit. They went down to the seaport of Seleucia and then
sailed for the island of Cyprus.
b. NIV: The two of them, sent on
their way by the Holy Spirit, went down to Seleucia and sailed from there to
Cyprus.
c. YLT: These, indeed, then, having
been sent forth by the Holy Spirit, went down to Seleucia, thence also they
sailed to Cyprus,
d. Amplified Bible Classic: So
then, being sent out by the Holy Spirit, they went down to Seleucia, and from
[that port] they sailed away to Cyprus.

1. “So they, being sent forth by
the Holy Ghost…”
a. So [Strong: 3303 * men men
a primary particle; properly, indicative of affirmation or concession (in
fact); usually followed by a contrasted clause with 1161 (this one, the former,
etc.):--even, indeed, so, some, truly, verily. Often compounded with other
particles in an intensive or asseverative sense.]

apparently a primary word; (adverbially) certainly, or (conjunctionally)
accordingly:--and (so, truly), but, now (then), so (likewise then), then,

d. being sent forth [Strong: 1599 *
ekpempo ek-pem'-po from 1537 and 3992; to despatch:--send away
(forth).]
e. by [Strong: 5259 * hupo hoop-o'
a primary preposition; under, i.e. (with the genitive case) of place (beneath),
or with verbs (the agency or means, through); (with the accusative case) of
place (whither (underneath) or where (below) or time (when (at)):--among, by,
from, in, of, under, with. In the comparative, it retains the same general
applications, especially of inferior position or condition, and specially,
covertly or moderately.]
f. the Holy [Strong: 40 * hagios
hag'-ee-os from hagos (an awful thing) (compare 53, 2282); sacred
(physically, pure, morally blameless or religious, ceremonially,

by analogy or figuratively, a spirit, i.e. (human) the rational soul, (by

angel, demon, or (divine) God, Christ's spirit, the Holy Spirit:--ghost, life,
spirit(-ual, -ually), mind.]

missionary tour when they were running into Jewish opposition, the apostles
quoted a portion of Isaiah 49:6 to the Jews who rejected their message.
a). Acts 13:46, 47 Then Paul and
Barnabas waxed bold, and said, It was necessary that the word of God should
first have been spoken to you: but seeing ye put it from you, and judge yourselves
unworthy of everlasting life, lo, we turn to the Gentiles.
13:47 For so hath the Lord
commanded us, saying, I have set thee to be a light of the Gentiles,
that thou shouldest be for salvation unto the ends of the earth.
b). It is my personal belief that
verses such as these were repeatedly brought to Saul and Barnabas’s hearts in
their studies and also by prophetic utterances.
2. “…departed unto Seleucia…”
