Acts 13:35

Wherefore he saith also in another psalm, Thou shalt not suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.

a. NLT: Another psalm explains it more fully: ‘You will not allow your Holy One to rot in the grave.

b. NIV: So it is also stated elsewhere: “ ‘You will not let your holy one see decay.

c. YLT: wherefore also in another place he saith, Thou shalt not give Thy kind One to see corruption,

d. Amplified Bible Classic: For this reason He says also in another psalm, You will not allow Your Holy One to see corruption [to undergo putrefaction and dissolution of the grave].

1. “Wherefore he saith also in another psalm…”

a. Wherefore [Strong: 1352 * dio dee-o' from 1223 and 3739; through which thing, i.e. consequently:--for which cause, therefore, wherefore.]

b. he saith [Strong: 3004 * lego leg'-o a primary verb; properly, to "lay" forth, i.e. (figuratively) relate (in words (usually of systematic or set discourse; whereas 2036 and 5346 generally refer to an individual expression or speech respectively; while 4483 is properly to break silence merely, and 2980 means an extended or random harangue)); by implication, to mean:--ask, bid, boast, call, describe, give out, name, put forth, say(-ing, on), shew, speak, tell, utter.]

2. “…Thou shalt not suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.”

a. Thou shalt…suffer [Strong: 1325 * didomi did'-o-mee a prolonged form of a primary verb (which is used as an alternative in most of the tenses); to give (used in a very wide application, properly, or by implication, literally or figuratively; greatly modified by the connection):--adventure, bestow, bring forth, commit, deliver (up), give, grant, hinder, make, minister, number, offer, have power, put, receive, set, shew, smite (+ with the hand), strike (+ with the palm of the hand), suffer, take, utter, yield.]

Holy One [Strong: 3741 * hosios hos'-ee-os of uncertain affinity; properly, right (by intrinsic or divine character; thus distinguished from 1342, which refers rather to human statutes and relations; from 2413, which denotes formal consecration; and from 40, which relates to purity from defilement), i.e. hallowed (pious, sacred, sure):--holy, mercy, shalt be.]

e. to see [Strong: 1492 * eido i'-do a primary verb; used only in certain past tenses, the others being borrowed from the equivalent 3700 and 3708; properly, to see (literally or figuratively); by implication, (in the perfect tense only) to know:--be aware, behold, X can (+ not tell), consider, (have) know(-ledge), look (on), perceive, see, be sure, tell, understand, wish, wot.]

f. corruption [Strong: 1312 * diaphthora dee-af-thor-ah' from 1311; decay:--corruption.]

1). To bolster his declaration of the resurrection of Christ Paul cites another Psalm, Psalm 16:10. In fact it is the same Psalm that Peter used on the day of Pentecost to preach about Christ’s resurrection.

a). Acts 2:25-32 For David speaketh concerning him, I foresaw the Lord always before my face, for he is on my right hand, that I should not be moved:
2:26 Therefore did my heart rejoice, and my tongue was glad; moreover also my flesh shall rest in hope:
2:27 Because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.
2:28 Thou hast made known to me the ways of life; thou shalt make me full of joy with thy countenance.
2:29 Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his epulcher is with us unto this day.
2:30 Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne;
2:31 He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption.
2:32 This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses.

2). To establish his teaching on the resurrection of Christ, Paul cited two witnesses, which is according to Old Covenant principle, that Paul continued to use in the New Covenant.

a). Deuteronomy 19:15 One witness shall not rise up against a man for any iniquity, or for any sin, in any sin that he sinneth: at the mouth of two witnesses, or at the mouth of three witnesses, shall the matter be established.

b). 2 Corinthians 13:1 This is the third time I am coming to you. In the mouth of two or three witnesses shall every word be established.
