Stone Edition Torah/Writings/Prophets: For the nation and kingdom that does not
serve you will perish, and those nations will be utterly destroyed.
1. “For
the nation and kingdom that will not serve thee shall perish…”
a.
the nation [1471 * gowy] [Strong: apparently from the same root as 1465 (in
the sense of massing); a foreign nation; hence, a Gentile; also (figuratively)
a troop of animals, or a flight of locusts:--Gentile, heathen, nation, people.]
b.
and kingdom [4467 * mamlakah] [Strong: from 4427; dominion, i.e.
(abstractly) the estate (rule) or (concretely) the country (realm):--kingdom,
king's, reign, royal.]
c.
serve [5647 * ‘abad] [Strong: a primitive root; to work (in any sense); by
implication, to serve, till, (causatively) enslave, etc.:--X be, keep in
bondage, be bondmen, bond-service, compel, do, dress, ear, execute, +
husbandman, keep, labour(-ing man, bring to pass, (cause to, make to)
serve(-ing, self), (be, become) servant(-s), do (use) service, till(-er),
transgress (from margin), (set a) work, be wrought, worshipper,]
1).
It is not a misprint. The Hebrew words for “serve” and “perish” are spelled the
same. There is an accent on “serve” that is not on “perish”.
d.
perish [6 * abad] [Strong: a primitive root; properly, to wander away, i.e.
lose oneself; by implication to perish (causative, destroy):--break, destroy(-
uction), + not escape, fail, lose, (cause to, make) perish, spend, X and
surely, take, be undone, X utterly, be void of, have no way to flee.]
1).
The particular way specified in this verse, the way the nations of the world
will serve Israel will be bringing their wealth into it.
a).

light of it: and the kings of the earth do bring their glory and honour into
