Isaiah 61:10
I will greatly
rejoice in the LORD, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he hath clothed me
with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of
righteousness, as a bridegroom decketh himself with ornaments, and as a bride
adorneth herself with her jewels.
a. NLT: I am overwhelmed with joy in the LORD my God! For he has
dressed me with the clothing of salvation and draped me in a robe of
righteousness. I am like a bridegroom in his wedding suit or a bride with her
jewels.
b. NIV: I delight greatly in the LORD; my soul rejoices in my God. For
he has clothed me with garments of salvation and arrayed me in a robe of his
righteousness, as a bridegroom adorns his head like a priest, and as a bride
adorns herself with her jewels.
c. Amplified Bible: I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, my soul will
exult in my God; for He has clothed me with the garments of salvation, He has
covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decks himself with a
garland, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.
d. Septuagint: and they shall greatly rejoice in the Lord. Let my soul
rejoice in the Lord; for he has clothed me with the robe of salvation, and the
garment of joy: he has put a mitre on me as on a bridegroom, and adorned me
with ornaments as a bride.
e. Stone Edition Torah/Writings/Prophets: I will rejoice intensely with
HASHEM, my soul will exult with my God, for He has dressed me in the raiment of
salvation, in a robe of righteousness has He cloaked me, like a bridegroom who
exalts [himself] with splendor, like a bride who bedecks herself with her jewely

1). We become clothed in his righteousness when we get born again, and
until we get born again we are clothed in our own righteousness, which is
filthy rags.
a). Romans 3:19-26 Now we know that what things
soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth
may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God.
3:20 Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be
justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.
3:21 But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested,
being witnessed by the law and the prophets;
3:22 Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ
unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference:
3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
3:24 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is
in Christ Jesus:
3:25 Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his
blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past,
through the forbearance of God;
3:26 To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might
be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.
b). Isaiah 64:6 But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our
righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our
iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.
2). Institute Of Creation Research Daily Devotional 7/7/14 One of the
beautiful Biblical metaphors of salvation is that of clothing appropriate for
coming into God’s presence. Such clothing is not something we ourselves can
make or purchase; it must be prepared and provided by God. Adam and Eve tried
to dress themselves in fig leaves, but that could not avail. Their Creator God
first had to slay two innocent animals, and then He made “coats of skins and
clothed them” (see Genesis 3:7, 21). So it is today. If we try to come to
God dressed in our works of righteousness, we can never make it, for “all our
righteousnesses are as filthy rags” in the presence of a holy God (Isaiah 64:6).
He must provide the clothing. As our text says, “He hath clothed me
with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the
robe of righteousness.” In Jesus’ parable of the wedding feast for the king’s
son, there was one man who wanted to participate in the feast, but who tried to
come in his own attire, disdaining the wedding garment provided by the king for
his guests. When the king asked, “How camest thou in hither not having a
wedding garment?” he was speechless, and then was bound hand and foot and
thrown “into outer darkness”. HMM.
3). Until I understood this Biblical principle concerning the
righteousness of God, I could never grasp certain passages such as the parable
of the king who held a banquet for his son, but once I understood it, the
parable became crystal clear. There is no way to enter into heaven unless we are
clothed with his righteousness.
a). Matthew 22:1-14 And Jesus answered and spake unto them again by
parables, and said,
22:2 The kingdom of heaven is like unto a certain king, which made a
marriage for his son,
22:3 And sent forth his servants to call them that were bidden to the
wedding: and they would not come.
22:4 Again, he sent forth other servants, saying, Tell them which are
bidden, Behold, I have prepared my dinner: my oxen and my fatlings are killed,
and all things are ready: come unto the marriage.
22:5 But they made light of it, and went their ways, one to his farm,
another to his merchandise:
22:6 And the remnant took his servants, and entreated them spitefully,
and slew them.
22:7 But when the king heard thereof, he was wroth: and he sent forth
his armies, and destroyed those murderers, and burned up their city.
22:8 Then saith he to his servants, The wedding is ready, but they
which were bidden were not worthy.
22:9 Go ye therefore into the highways, and as many as ye shall find,
bid to the marriage.
22:10 So those servants went out into the highways, and gathered
together all as many as they found, both bad and good: and the wedding was
furnished with guests.
22:11 And when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man
which had not on a wedding garment:
22:12 And he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not
having a wedding garment? And he was speechless.
22:13 Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and
take him away, and cast him into outer darkness, there shall be weeping and
gnashing of teeth.
22:14 For many are called, but few are chosen.
4). Once I understood about God’s righteousness, other verse fell into
place.
a). Revelation 19:7, 8 Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to
him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready.
19:8 And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen,
clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints.
3. “…as a
bridegroom decketh himself with ornaments…”
a. bridegroom [2860 * chathan] [Strong: from 2859; a relative by
marriage (especially through the bride); figuratively, a circumcised child (as
a species of religious espousal):--bridegroom, husband, son in law.]
b. decketh [3547 * kahan] [Strong: a primitive root, apparently meaning
to mediate in religious services; but used only as denominative from 3548;
to officiate as a priest; figuratively, to put on regalia:--deck, be (do the
office of a, execute the, minister in the) priest('s office).]
1). This is interesting in the fact it hints of a prophetic New
Testament application, Christ jesus of
course being our High Priest.
a). Hebrews 5:1-10 For every high priest taken from among men is
ordained for men in things pertaining to God, that he may offer both gifts and
sacrifices for sins:
5:2 Who can have compassion on the ignorant, and on them that are out
of the way; for that he himself also is compassed with infirmity.
5:3 And by reason hereof he ought, as for the people, so also for
himself, to offer for sins.
5:4 And no man taketh this honour unto himself, but he that is called
of God, as was Aaron.
5:5 So also Christ glorified not himself to be made an high priest; but
he that said unto him, Thou art my Son, to day have I begotten thee.
5:6 As he saith also in another place, Thou art a priest for ever after
the order of Melchisedec.
5:7 Who in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and
supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him
from death, and was heard in that he feared;
5:8 Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which
he suffered;
5:9 And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation
unto all them that obey him;
5:10 Called of God an high
priest after the order of Melchisedec.
c. ornaments [6287 * pe’er] [Strong: from 6286; an embellishment,
i.e. fancy head-dress:--beauty, bonnet, goodly, ornament, tire.]
4. “…and as a bride
adorneth herself with her jewels.”
a. bride [3618 * kallah]
[Strong: from 3634; a bride (as if perfect); hence, a son's wife:--bride,
daughter-in-law, spouse.]
1). Twice New Jerusalem is referred to as
the bride.
a). Revelation 21:2 And I John saw the holy
city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
b). Revelation 21:9-11 And there came unto
me one of the seven angels which had the seven vials full of the seven last
plagues, and talked with me, saying, Come hither, I will shew thee the bride,
the Lamb's wife.
21:10 And he carried me away in the spirit
to a great and high mountain, and shewed me that great city, the holy
Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God,
21:11 Having the glory of God: and her light
was like unto a stone most precious, even like a jasper stone, clear as
crystal;
2). But it also appears that the church is
also the bride.
a). 2 Corinthians 11:2 For I am jealous over
you with godly jealousy: for I have espoused you to one husband, that I may
present you as a chaste virgin to Christ.
b). Ephesians 5:25-32 Husbands, love your
wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;
5:26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it
with the washing of water by the word,
5:27 That he might present it to himself a
glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it
should be holy and without blemish.
5:28 So ought men to love their wives as
their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself.
5:29 For no man ever yet hated his own
flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church:
5:30 For we are members of his body, of his
flesh, and of his bones.
5:31 For this cause shall a man leave his
father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one
flesh.
5:32 This is a great mystery: but I speak
concerning Christ and the church.
c). Revelation 19:5-8 And a voice came out
of the throne, saying, Praise our God, all ye his servants, and ye that fear
him, both small and great.
19:6 And I heard as it were the voice of a
great multitude, and as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of mighty
thunderings, saying, Alleluia: for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth.
19:7 Let us be glad and rejoice, and give
honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made
herself ready.
19:8 And to her was granted that she should
be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the
righteousness of saints.
b. adorneth [5710 * ] [Strong: a primitive root; to advance, i.e. pass
on or continue; causatively, to remove; specifically, to bedeck (i.e. bring an
ornament upon):--adorn, deck (self), pass by, take away.]
c. jewels [3627 * keliy] [Strong: from 3615; something prepared,
i.e. any apparatus (as an implement, utensil, dress, vessel or weapon):--armour
((-bearer)), artillery, bag, carriage, + furnish, furniture, instrument, jewel,
that is made of, X one from another, that which pertaineth, pot, + psaltery,
sack, stuff, thing, tool, vessel, ware, weapon, + whatsoever.]
