This verse and the next verse clearly refer to children being taken captive by
the ememy. Deuteronomy 28 details the blessings and curses of the Covenant. In
the blessings and the curses, every part of life is touched and affected depending
on faithfulness or disobedience, including children.
1).
Deuteronomy 28:32 Thy sons and thy daughters shall be given unto another
people, and thine eyes shall look, and fail with longing for them all the day
long: and there shall be no might in thine hand.
e.
Because of what Jesus accomplished on the cross and his resurrection and us
accepting and believing it we get born again and enter into God’s family.
Because we are in Christ we are redeemed from the curse of the law.
1).
Galatians 3:13, 14 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being
made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a
tree:
3:14
That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ;
that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.
f.
Under the curse the parents would fail with longing all day and there would be
no might in their hands to do anything about it, but that is not the case with
those who are in Christ. We have been raised to sit together with Christ in heavenly
places.
1).
Ephesians 1:15-23 Wherefore
I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus, and love unto all the
saints,
1:16
Cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers;
1:17
That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you
the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him:
1:18
The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the
hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the
saints,
1:19
And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe,
according to the working of his mighty power,
1:20
Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his
own right hand in the heavenly places,
1:21
Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name
that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come:
1:22
And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all
things to the church,
1:23
Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all.
g.
Instead of longing for our children all day, let’s look at the promises of God
regarding our children.
1).
Isaiah 44:1-5 Yet now hear, O Jacob my servant; and Israel, whom I have chosen:
44:2
Thus saith the Lord that made thee, and formed thee from the womb,
which will help thee; Fear not, O Jacob, my servant; and thou, Jesurun, whom I
have chosen.
44:3
For I will pour water upon him that is thirsty, and floods upon the dry ground:
I will pour my spirit upon thy seed, and my blessing upon thine offspring:
44:4
And they shall spring up as among the grass, as willows by the water courses.
44:5
One shall say, I am the Lord's; and another shall call himself by the name
of Jacob; and another shall subscribe with his hand unto the Lord, and
surname himself by the name of Israel.
2).
Isaiah 49:25 But thus saith the Lord, Even the captives of the mighty
shall be taken away, and the prey of the terrible shall be delivered: for I
will contend with him that contendeth with thee, and I will save thy children.
