2 Corinthians 5:2

For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed upon with our house which is from heaven:

a. NLT: We grow weary in our present bodies, and we long to put on our heavenly bodies like new clothing.

b. NIV: Meanwhile we groan, longing to be clothed instead with our heavenly dwelling,

c. YLT: For also in this we groan, with our dwelling that is from heaven earnestly desiring to clothe ourselves,

d. Amplified Bible Classic: Here indeed, in this [present abode, body], we sigh and groan inwardly, because we yearn to be clothed over [we yearn to put on our celestial body like a garment, to be fitted out] with our heavenly dwelling,

e. Worrell Translation: For verily, in this we groan, longing to be clothed upon with our habitation which is from Heaven.

f. Wuest Translation: For in deed, in this [tent] we are groaning, longing to be clothed in addition with our house which is from heaven,

1. “For in this we groan…”

a. For [Strong: 2532 kai kahee apparently, a primary particle, having a copulative and sometimes also a cumulative force; and, also, even, so then, too, etc.; often used in connection (or composition) with other particles or small words:--and, also, both, but, even, for, if, or, so, that, then, therefore, when, yet.]

b. For [Strong: 1063 gar gar a primary particle; properly, assigning a reason (used in argument, explanation or intensification; often with other particles):--and, as, because (that), but, even, for, indeed, no doubt, seeing, then, therefore, verily, what, why, yet.]

c. in [Strong: 1722 en en a primary preposition denoting (fixed) position (in place, time or state), and (by implication) instrumentality (medially or constructively), i.e. a relation of rest (intermediate between 1519 and 1537); "in," at, (up-)on, by, etc.:--about, after, against, + almost, X altogether, among, X as, at, before, between, (here-)by (+ all means), for (... sake of), + give self wholly to, (here-)in(-to, -wardly), X mightily, (because) of, (up-)on, (open-)ly, X outwardly, one, X quickly, X shortly, (speedi-)ly, X that, X there(-in, -on), through(-out), (un-)to(-ward), under, when, where(-with), while, with(-in). e. we groan [Strong: 4727 stenazo sten-ad'-zo from 4728; to make (intransitively, be) in straits, i.e. (by implication) to sigh, murmur, pray inaudibly:--with grief, groan, grudge, sigh.]

1). The Apostle Paul uses this word at least twice to mention that we groan for the glorified body promised us.

a). Romans 8:19-23 For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God.

8:20 For the creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason of him who hath subjected the same in hope,

8:21 Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God.

8:22 For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now.

8:23 And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.

2. “…earnestly desiring to be clothed upon with our house which is from heaven:”

a. earnestly desiring [Strong: 1971 epipotheo ep-ee-poth-eh'-o from 1909 and potheo (to yearn); to dote upon, i.e. intensely crave possession (lawfully or wrongfully):--(earnestly) desire (greatly), (greatly) long (after), lust.]

1). Other uses.

a). 1 Peter 2:2 As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:

b). Romans 1:11 For I long to see you, that I may impart unto you some spiritual gift, to the end ye may be established;

c). 2 Timothy 1:4 Greatly desiring to see thee, being mindful of thy tears, that I may be filled with joy;

b. to be clothed upon [Strong: 1902 ependuomai ep-en-doo'-om-ahee middle voice from 1909 and 1746; to invest upon oneself:--be clothed upon.]

c. with our [Strong: 2257 hemon hay-mone' genitive case plural of 1473; of (or from) us:--our (company), us, we.]

d. house [Strong: 3613 oiketerion oy-kay-tay'-ree-on neuter of a presumed derivative of 3611 (equivalent to 3612); a residence (literally or figuratively):--habitation, house.]

Ben Adam, Oigin of Heathendom, “…on the generally accepted principle of interpretation of explaining the unknown by the known, we can explain the word in Jude by the meaning that it undoubtedly bears in Corinthians. Thus we learn that these angels not only left their heavenly home, but they left their spiritual bodies also…in other words they exercised that peculiar power that according to Scripture seems to inhere angel nature---the power to materialize at will, in order that they might correspond with their earthly environment and at the same time be physically capable of intercourse with the daughters of men.”

2). Ruckman: Psalm 82 refers to the physical death of the angels at the flood. Some how and in some way, they gave up their spiritual bodies???

3). Though I lean toward this teaching, this teaching is highly charged with disagreement with good men and women of God.

g. heaven [Strong: 3772 ouranos oo-ran-os' perhaps from the same as 3735 (through the idea of elevation); the sky; by extension, heaven (as the abode of God); by implication, happiness, power, eternity; specially, the Gospel (Christianity):--air, heaven(-ly), sky.]

1). Our house from heaven is the glorified body just like Jesus.

a). 1 Corinthians 15:49-53  And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly.

15:50 Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption.

15:51 Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,

15:52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.

15:53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.

b). Philippians 3:20, 21 For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ:

3:21 Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself.
