2 Corinthians 5:7
For we walk by faith, not by sight.
a. NLT: For we live by believing and not by seeing.
b. NIV: For we live by faith, not by sight.
c. YLT: For through faith we walk, not through sight --
d. Amplified Bible Classic: For we walk by faith [we regulate our lives and conduct ourselves by our conviction or belief respecting man’s relationship to God and divine things, with trust and holy fervor; thus we walk] not by sight or appearance.
e. Worrell Translation: (For we walk by faith and not by sight);
f. Wuest Translation: For through faith we are ordering our manner of life, not be something seen.
1. (For we walk by faith, not by sight.)
1). Faith always implies previous instruction, in particular, instruction “by the word of God.”
a). Romans 10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
2). When we have previous instruction on a matter, i.e., Scripture, then we know it is the will of God. We then as obedient believers, walk according to what that word, or previous instruction says, not by what circumstances look like or say. And then we order our conversation, the words that come out of our mouth accordingly.
a). 2 Corinthians 4:13 We having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak;
3). A perfect example is Jesus telling Peter to walk on water. Peter heard the word, the previous instruction from Jesus to come out of the boat. The Bible says that Peter walked on the water. But Peter took his eyes of Jesus and began to sink.
a). Matthew 14:25-31 And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea.
14:26 And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit; and they cried out for fear.
14:27 But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid.
14:28 And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water.
14:29 And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus.
14:30 But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me.
14:31 And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?
