2 Corinthians 5:8
We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.
a. NLT: Yes, we are fully confident, and we would rather be away from these earthly bodies, for then we will be at home with the Lord.
b. NIV: We are confident, I say, and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord.
c. YLT: We have courage, and are well pleased rather to be away from the home of the body, and to be at home with the Lord.
d. Amplified Bible Classic: [Yes] we have confident and hopeful courage and are pleased rather to be away from home out of the body and be at home with the Lord.
e. Worrell Translation: We are of good courage, I say, and are well pleased to be absent from the body, and to be home with the Lord.
f. Wuest Translation: Now, we ae of good courage and well pleased rather to be away from our body as our home, and at home face to face with the Lord.
1. “We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body…”

j. body [Strong: 4983 soma so'-mah from 4982; the body (as a sound whole), used in a very wide application, literally or figuratively:--bodily, body, slave.]
1). This is one of the passages used to teach with out doubt that when a believer dies they go to heaven, to be with the Lord, not some intermediate state. Because of this knowledge, there is no fear of death.
2. “…and to be present with the Lord.”

1). Under the Old Covenant, when they died believers went to Abraham’s bosom, and intermediate state located in the center of the earth across from hell (Luke 16:19-31).
2). After the resurrection of Christ and the application of His blood on the Heavenly Mercy Seat (Hebrews 9:11, 12), Christ Jesus then ascended into heaven and took those who were in the Old Covenant intermediate state to heaven with him (Ephesians 4:8-10). Because of what Jesus accomplished, believers after death go to heaven.
