Jeremiah 5:27

As a cage is full of birds, so are their houses full of deceit: therefore they are become great, and waxen rich.

a. ASV: As a cage is full of birds, so are their houses full of deceit: therefore they are become great, and waxed rich.

b. YLT: As a cage full of fowls, So their houses are full of deceit, Therefore they have been great, and are rich.

c. Classic Amplified: As a cage is full of birds, so are their houses full of deceit and treachery; therefore they have become great and grown rich,

d. Septuagint: As a snare which has been set is full of birds, so are their houses full of deceit: therefore have they grown great, and become rich:

e. Stone Edition Torah/Prophets/ Writings: Like a cage full of fowl, so their houses are full of deceit; thereby they have grown great and wealthy.

1. “As a cage is full of birds, so are their houses full of deceit…”

a. [As a] cage [Strong: 3619 kᵉlûwb, kel-oob'; from the same as H3611; a bird-trap (as furnished with a clap-stick or treadle to spring it); hence, a basket (as resembling a wicker cage):—basket, cage.]

b. [is] full [Strong: 4392 mâlêʼ, maw-lay'; from H4390; full (literally or figuratively) or filling (literally); also (concretely) fulness; adverbially, fully:—× she that was with child, fill(-ed, -ed with), full(-ly), multitude, as is worth.]

c. [of] birds [Strong: 5775 ʻôwph, ofe; from H5774; a bird (as covered with feathers, or rather as covering with wings), often collectively:—bird, that flieth, flying, fowl.]

d.  so [Strong: 3651 ken kane from 3559; properly, set upright; hence (figuratively as adjective) just; but usually (as adverb or conjunction) rightly or so (in various applications to manner, time and relation; often with other particles):--+ after that (this, -ward, -wards), as ... as, + (for-)asmuch as yet, + be (for which) cause, + following, howbeit, in (the) like (manner, -wise), X the more, right, (even) so, state, straightway, such (thing), surely, + there (where)-fore, this, thus, true, well, X you.]

e. [are their] houses [Strong: 1004 bayith, bah'-yith; probably from H1129 abbreviated; a house (in the greatest variation of applications, especially family, etc.):—court, daughter, door, + dungeon, family, + forth of, × great as would contain, hangings, home(born), (winter) house(-hold), inside(-ward), palace, place, + prison, + steward, + tablet, temple, web, + within(-out).

f. full [Strong: 4392 mâlêʼ, maw-lay'; from H4390; full (literally or figuratively) or filling (literally); also (concretely) fulness; adverbially, fully:—× she that was with child, fill(-ed, -ed with), full(-ly), multitude, as is worth.]

g. [of] deceit [Strong: 4820 mirmâh, meer-maw'; from H7411 in the sense of deceiving; fraud:—craft, deceit(-ful, -fully), false, feigned, guile, subtilly, treachery.]

1). Birds of the air are likened to the devil and his demons.

a). Matthew 13:3, 4 And he spake many things unto them in parables, saying, Behold, a sower went forth to sow;
13:4 And when he sowed, some seeds fell by the way side, and the fowls came and devoured them up:

b). Matthew 13:19 When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, then cometh the wicked one, and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart. This is he which received seed by the way side.

2). Jesus also likened the kingdom of heaven to a tree in wich birds of the air would lodge within, indicating that many erroneous beliefs would be found in it.

a). Matthew 13:31, 32 Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is like to a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and sowed in his field:
13:32 Which indeed is the least of all seeds: but when it is grown, it is the greatest among herbs, and becometh a tree, so that the birds of the air come and lodge in the branches thereof.

3). So likewise spirits of deceit lodge the houses of the rebellious (Jeremiah 5:23-27).

2. “...therefore they are become great, and waxen rich.”

a. therefore [Strong: 5921 `al al properly, the same as 5920 used as a preposition (in the singular or plural often with prefix, or as conjunction with a particle following); above, over, upon, or against (yet always in this last relation with a downward aspect) in a great variety of applications (as follow):--above, according to(-ly), after, (as) against, among, and, X as, at, because of, beside (the rest of), between, beyond the time, X both and, by (reason of), X had the charge of, concerning for, in (that), (forth, out) of, (from) (off), (up-)on, over, than, through(-out), to, touching, X with.

b. [Strong: 3651 ken kane from 3559; properly, set upright; hence (figuratively as adjective) just; but usually (as adverb or conjunction) rightly or so (in various applications to manner, time and relation; often with other particles):--+ after that (this, -ward, -wards), as ... as, + (for-)asmuch as yet, + be (for which) cause, + following, howbeit, in (the) like (manner, -wise), X the more, right, (even) so, state, straightway, such (thing), surely, + there (where)-fore, this, thus, true, well, X you.]

c. [they are become] great [Strong: 1431 gâdal, gaw-dal'; a primitive root; properly, to twist (compare H1434), i.e. to be (causatively make) large (in various senses, as in body, mind, estate or honor, also in pride):—advance, boast, bring up, exceed, excellent, be(-come, do, give, make, wax), great(-er, come to... estate, things), grow(up), increase, lift up, magnify(-ifical), be much set by, nourish (up), pass, promote, proudly (spoken), tower.]

d. [and waxen] rich [Strong: 6238 ʻâshar, aw-shar'; a primitive root; properly, to accumulate; chiefly (specifically) to grow (causatively, make) rich:—be(-come, en-, make, make self, wax) rich, make (1 Kings 22:48 margin).]
