Acts 28:23

Acts 28:23

And when they had appointed him a day, there came many to him into his lodging; to whom he expounded and testified the kingdom of God, persuading them concerning Jesus, both out of the law of Moses, and out of the prophets, from morning till evening.

1. “And when they had appointed him a day, there came many to him into his lodging…”

a. This group included the Jewish leaders of Rome and perhaps the surrounding areas, and many other Jews from the same areas.

2. “…to whom he expounded and testified the kingdom of God, persuading them concerning Jesus, both out of the law of Moses, and out of the prophets, from mourning till evening.”

a. I can’t tell you how much I would have loved to have been in this room and heard the discussions. We have the Apostle Paul who had received the New Covenant from direct revelation of Jesus Christ, and who was arguably one of the most knowledgeable Jews of Jewish rabbinic tradition, showing them Jesus out of the OT word of God .

1). Galatians 1:13, 14 “For ye have heard of my conversation in time past in the Jews' religion, how that beyond measure I persecuted the church of God, and wasted it:
And profited in the Jews' religion above many my equals in mine own nation, being more exceedingly zealous of the traditions of my fathers.”

b. I am reminded of the incident of the two disciples who were going to Emmaus after the resurrection of Christ when Jesus himself began walking with them and they did not even recognize him. He showed them Himself in all the Scriptures. Surely what the two disciples heard was more in depth than what the Jewish leaders of Rome heard, but what they heard was no doubt the things of the New Covenant, what Christ would accomplish that was hidden in the Old Covenant.

1). Luke 24:27 “And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.”
