The families of the Gershonites shall pitch behind the tabernacle westward.

And the chief of the house of the father of the Gershonites shall be Eliasaph the son of Lael.

a. The family of the Gershonites were to pitch their tents right behind the tabernacle to the west.

b. The leader of the Gershonites was to be Eliasaph.

c. The leader of each branch of the Levite family was subject to Eleazar the son of Aaron.
