And Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest shall be chief over the chief of the Levites, and have the oversight of them that keep the charge of the sanctuary.

1. And Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest shall be chief over the chief of the Levites

a. Eleazar was given the oversight of the three Levitical branches that ministered in the tabernacle, the Gersonites, the Kohathites and the sons of Merari.

2. “…and have the oversight of them that keep the charge of the sanctuary.”

a. He was also made overseer of the whole tabernacle.

b. Numbers 4:16 And to the office of Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest pertaineth the oil for the light, and the sweet incense, and the daily meat offering, and the anointing oil, and the oversight of all the tabernacle, and of all that therein is, in the sanctuary, and in the vessels thereof.
