Numbers 4:4

 

This shall be the service of the sons of Kohath in the tabernacle of the congregation, about the most holy things:

 

a. The sons of Kohath were not allowed to do anything until after the priests had finished the systematic job of carefully covering the four pieces of furniture within the Holy place and the Holy of Holies: the Ark of the Covenant, the Menorah (candlestick), the Table of showbread and the altar of incense.

 

b. This process is explained completely in Numbers 4:5-14. It is not until Numbers 4:15 when all the furnishings of the tabernacle have been properly covered that the Kohathites were allowed to come and carry them.
