1).
Repeating what was said in the previous verse, this angel was operating in the
office of the priest. The burning of incense on the altar of incense was the
ministry of a priest and only of a priest.
a). Exodus
30:7, 8 And Aaron shall burn thereon sweet incense every morning: when he
dresseth the lamps, he shall burn incense upon it.
30:8 And
when Aaron lighteth the lamps at even, he shall burn incense upon it, a
perpetual incense before the LORD throughout your generations.
2). I
personally believe that this priest was none other than Christ Jesus operating
in His High Priest office.
a). Hebrews
4:14-16 Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the
heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession.
4:15 For
we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our
infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as [we are, yet] without sin.
4:16 Let
us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy,
and find grace to help in time of need.
b).
Hebrews 8:1-3 Now of the things which we have spoken this is the sum: We have
such an high priest, who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty
in the heavens;
8:2 A
minister of the sanctuary, and of the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched,
and not man.
8:3 For
every high priest is ordained to offer gifts and sacrifices: wherefore it is of
necessity that this man have somewhat also to offer.
c).
Hebrews 9:11, 12 But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come,
by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say,
not of this building;
9:12 Neither
by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into
the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.
