1). Perry Stone Study Bible: When Christ answered. “I am he” the pronoun “he” is not in the original Greek, but was added to complete the statement in English grammatically. Christ literally said, “I am,” and the entire group of men seeking Him fell backwark to the ground. This demonstrated Christ’s supernatural power over His persecutors, yet he chose to submit to their arrest and stand trial. God Himself said to Moses, “I AM THAT I AM” (Exodus 3:14). Here Christ uses the same phrase, I am,” releasing the divine power of the Father abiding within Him!
a). Exodus 3:13, 14 And Moses said unto God, Behold, when I come unto the children of Israel, and shall say unto them, The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say to me, What is his name? what shall I say unto them?
3:14 And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.
1). This is the same power and glory that was felt by Moses when the building Tabernacle was complete and the Levitical priests twice during the dedication services of the Temple.
a). Exodus 40:34, 35 Then a cloud covered the tent of the congregation, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle.
40:35 And Moses was not able to enter into the tent of the congregation, because the cloud abode thereon, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle.
b). 2 Chronicles 5:11-14 And it came to pass, when the priests were come out of the holy place: (for all the priests that were present were sanctified, and did not then wait by course:
5:12 Also the Levites which were the singers, all of them of Asaph, of Heman, of Jeduthun, with their sons and their brethren, being arrayed in white linen, having cymbals and psalteries and harps, stood at the east end of the altar, and with them an hundred and twenty priests sounding with trumpets:)
5:13 It came even to pass, as the trumpeters and singers were as one, to make one sound to be heard in praising and thanking the Lord; and when they lifted up their voice with the trumpets and cymbals and instruments of musick, and praised the Lord, saying, For he is good; for his mercy endureth for ever: that then the house was filled with a cloud, even the house of the Lord;
5:14 So that the priests could not stand to minister by reason of the cloud: for the glory of the Lord had filled the house of God.
c). 2 Chronicles 7:1-3 Now when Solomon had made an end of praying, the fire came down from heaven, and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices; and the glory of the Lord filled the house.
7:2 And the priests could not enter into the house of the Lord, because the glory of the Lord had filled the Lord's house.
7:3 And when all the children of Israel saw how the fire came down, and the glory of the Lord upon the house, they bowed themselves with their faces to the ground upon the pavement, and worshipped, and praised the Lord, saying, For he is good; for his mercy endureth for ever.
