And they laid hands on them, and put them in hold unto the next day: for it was now eventide.

l. for [Strong: 1063. gar gar a primary particle; properly, assigning a reason (used in argument, explanation or intensification; often with other particles):--and, as, because (that), but, even, for, indeed, no doubt, seeing, then, therefore, verily, what, why, yet.]

m. [it] was [Strong: 2258. en ane imperfect of 1510; I (thou, etc.) was (wast or were):--+ agree, be, X have (+ charge of), hold, use, was(-t), were.]

n. now [Strong: 2235. ede ay'-day apparently from 2228 (or possibly 2229) and 1211; even now:--already, (even) now (already), by this time.]

o. eventide [Strong: 2073. hespera hes-per'-ah feminine of an adjective hesperos (evening); the eve (5610 being implied):--evening(-tide).]

1). The whole episode started according to Acts 3:1 at the ninth hour or about 3 PM our time. Here in verse 3 it says it was eventide, about 6 PM, so we’re talking about three hours of preaching, witnessing and presenting Christ to this crowd.
