1)..Israel was at Sinai 10 days short of a year.

b). Numbers 10:11, 12 And it came to pass on the twentieth day of the second month, in the second year, that the cloud was taken up from off the tabernacle of the testimony.

2). Moses had climbed Sinai at least eight times while Israel was at Sinai.
a). First ascent: Exodus 19:2-7.
b). Second ascent: Exodus 19:8.
c). Third ascent: Exodus 19:10: The LORD is speaking unto Moses which implies he had climbed the mountain again.
d). Fourth ascent: Exodus 19:20-25: During this time God speaks to the people giving them the ten Commandments (Exodus 20:1-17).
e). Fifth ascent: Exodus 20:21 God gives Moses various laws (Exodus 21-23).
f). Sixth ascent: Exodus 24:1-11 Moses goes up again and brings Aaron, his sons and 70 elders of Israel, and Joshua is with them. During this time they all have a fellowship meal with God (Exodus 24:9-11). Moses and Joshua leave to go up further (Exodus 24:12-14). Moses goes up and receives the instruction for the Tabernacle, all the furniture, the Priesthood, the priesthood garments, the offerings. He is up there 40 days and night, and brings us to Exodus 32 and the golden calf. It is during this sixth time on the mountain that the golden calf is made.
