Insomuch that they brought forth the sick into the streets, and laid them on beds and couches, that at the least the shadow of Peter passing by might overshadow some of them.

1. “Insomuch that they brought forth the sick into the streets, and laid them on beds and couches…”


a. Inasmuch [Strong: 5620. hoste hoce'-teh from 5613 and 5037; so too, i.e. thus therefore (in various relations of consecution, as follow):--(insomuch) as, so that (then), (insomuch) that, therefore, to, wherefore.]

l. couches [Strong: 2895. krabbatos krab'-bat-os probably of foreign origin; a mattress:--bed.]


2. “...that at the least the shadow of Peter passing by might overshadow some of them.”


a. that [Strongs: 2443. hina hin'-ah probably from the same as the former part of 1438 (through the demonstrative idea; compare 3588); in order that (denoting the purpose or the result):--albeit, because, to the intent (that), lest, so as, (so) that, (for) to.]

e. Peter [Strong: 4074. Petros pet'-ros apparently a primary word; a (piece of) rock (larger than 3037); as a name, Petrus, an apostle:--Peter, rock.]


f. passing by [Strong: 2064. erchomai er'-khom-ahee middle voice of a primary verb (used only in the present and imperfect tenses, the others being supplied by a kindred (middle voice) eleuthomai el-yoo'-thom-ahee, or (active) eltho el'-tho, which do not otherwise occur) to come or go (in a great variety of applications, literally and figuratively):--accompany, appear, bring, come, enter, fall out, go, grow, X light, X next, pass, resort, be set.]


g. [might] overshadow [Strong: 1982. episkiazo ep-ee-skee-ad'-zo from 1909 and a derivative of 4639; to cast a shade upon, i.e. (by analogy) to envelop in a haze of brilliancy; figuratively, to invest with preternatural influence:--overshadow.]

1). Robert A. Tourville: The Acts of the Apostles: This is an example of the awe inspiring signs and breathtaking wonders that were expected and occurring through the hands of the apostles. It is as if there is a parade to church and people gather along the route. Some may have come to see and the rest were there for healing.
