a. NLT: Then he touched their eyes and said, “Because of your faith, it will happen.”

b. NIV: Then he touched their eyes and said, “According to your faith let it be done to you”;

c. Amplified Bible: Then He touched their eyes, saying, According to your faith and trust and reliance [on the power invested in Me] be it done to you;

d. Young’s Literal Translation:

e. A.S. Worrell Translation: Then He touched their eyes, saying, “According to your faith be it done to you.”

1. “Then he touched their eyes, saying…”

a. then [5119 * tote] [Strong: from the neuter of 3588 and 3753; the when, i.e. at the time that (of the past or future, also in consecution): that time, then.]

b. he [846 * autos] [Strong: from the particle au (perhaps akin to the base of 109 through the idea of a baffling wind) (backward); the reflexive pronoun self, used (alone or in the comparative 1438) of the third person , and (with the proper personal pronoun) of the other persons:--her, it(-self), one, the other, (mine) own, said, (self-), the) same, ((him-, my-, thy- )self, (your-)selves, she, that, their(-s), them(-selves), there(-at, - by, -in, -into, -of, -on, -with), they, (these) things, this (man), those, together, very, which.]

c. touched [680 * haptomai] [Strong: to attach oneself to, i.e. to touch (in many implied relations): touch.]

d. their [846 * autos] See “he” above.

e. eyes [3788 * opthalmos] [Strong: from 3700; the eye (literally or figuratively) by implication vision; figuratively envy (from the jealous side-glance): eye, sight.]

f. saying [3004 * lego] [Strong: a primary verb; properly, to "lay" forth, i.e. (figuratively) relate (in words (usually of systematic or set discourse; whereas 2036 and 5346 generally refer to an individual expression or speech respectively; while 4483 is properly to break silence merely, and 2980 means an extended or random harangue)); by implication, to mean:--ask, bid, boast, call, describe, give out, name, put forth, say(-ing, on), shew, speak, tell, utter.]

2. “…According to your faith be it unto you.”

a. according [2596 * kata][Thayer: down from, through out, according to, toward, along.] [Strong: a primary particle; (prepositionally) down (in place or time), in varied relations (according to the case (genitive, dative or accusative) with which it is joined):--about, according as (to), after, against, (when they were) X alone, among, and, X apart, (even, like) as (concerning, pertaining to touching), X aside, at, before, beyond, by, to the charge of, (charita-)bly, concerning, + covered, (dai-)ly, down, every, (+ far more) exceeding, X more excellent, for, from ... to, godly, in(-asmuch, divers, every, -to, respect of), ... by, after the manner of, + by any means, beyond (out of) measure, X mightily, more, X natural, of (up-)on (X part), out (of every), over against, (+ your) X own, + particularly, so, through(-oughout, -oughout every), thus, (un-)to(-gether, -ward), X uttermost, where(-by), with. 1). according [Web] as stated by or in; depending on whether, to cause to conform or agree; bring into harmony, to grant, especially as being due or appropriate, as stated, reported, or recorded by (someone or something), as directed or required by (rules, directions, etc.).

b. to your [5216 * humon] [Strong: of (from or concerning) you:--ye, you, your (own, -selves).]

c. faith [4102 * pistis] [W.E. Vine: The main elements in faith in its relation to the invisible God…are especially brought out in the use of this noun and the corresponding verb, they are: 1. A firm conviction producing a full acknowledgement of God’s revelation or truth [His word]. 2. A personal surrender to Him. 3. A conduct inspired by such surrender.]

1). We must, whenever looking at the context of faith in Scripture, be mindful of previous instruction. In order to have faith there must have been previous instruction, for as Romans 10:17 declares, “So then faith cometh be hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”

d. be it [1096 * ginomai] [Strong: a prolongation and middle voice form of a primary verb; to cause to be ("gen"-erate), i.e. (reflexively) to become (come into being), used with great latitude (literal, figurative, intensive, etc.):--arise, be assembled, be(-come, -fall, -have self), be brought (to pass), (be) come (to pass), continue, be divided, draw, be ended, fall, be finished, follow, be found, be fulfilled, + God forbid, grow, happen, have, be kept, be made, be married, be ordained to be, partake, pass, be performed, be published, require, seem, be showed, X soon as it was, sound, be taken, be turned, use, wax, will, would, be wrought.]

e. unto you [5213 * humin] [Strong: to (with or by) you:--ye, you, your(-selves).]

1). If language means anything, whether it be in Greek or English, the healing of these men was dependent on their faith. Yes Jesus was the one doing the healing, but it was according to their faith. It is a classic example of the provision of healing being provided by God and man appropriating it for himself by and through faith. This is not an isolated incident, many times in the gospels Jesus said the persons healing was dependent upon their own faith.

a). Matthew 9:20-22 And, behold, a woman, which was diseased with an issue of blood twelve years, came behind him, and touched the hem of his garment:
9:21 For she said within herself, If I may but touch his garment, I shall be whole.
9:22 But Jesus turned him about, and when he saw her, he said, Daughter, be of good comfort; thy faith hath made thee whole. And the woman was made whole from that hour.

b). Matthew 15:21-28 Then Jesus went thence, and departed into the coasts of Tyre and Sidon.
15:22 And, behold, a woman of Canaan came out of the same coasts, and cried unto him, saying, Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou son of David; my daughter is grievously vexed with a devil.
15:23 But he answered her not a word. And his disciples came and besought him, saying, Send her away; for she crieth after us.
15:24 But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
15:25 Then came she and worshipped him, saying, Lord, help me.
15:26 But he answered and said, It is not meet to take the children's bread, and to cast it to dogs.
15:27 And she said, Truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters' table.
15:28 Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt. And her daughter was made whole from that very hour.

c). Mark 10:46-52And they came to Jericho: and as he went out of Jericho with his disciples and a great number of people, blind Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, sat by the highway side begging.
10:47 And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out, and say, Jesus, thou son of David, have mercy on me.
10:48 And many charged him that he should hold his peace: but he cried the more a great deal, Thou son of David, have mercy on me.
10:49 And Jesus stood still, and commanded him to be called. And they call the blind man, saying unto him, Be of good comfort, rise; he calleth thee.
10:50 And he, casting away his garment, rose, and came to Jesus.
10:51 And Jesus answered and said unto him, What wilt thou that I should do unto thee? The blind man said unto him, Lord, that I might receive my sight.
10:52And Jesus said unto him, Go thy way; thy faith hath made thee whole. And immediately he received his sight, and followed Jesus in the way.

d). Luke 17:12-19 And as he entered into a certain village, there met him ten men that were lepers, which stood afar off:
17:13 And they lifted up their voices, and said, Jesus, Master, have mercy on us.
17:14 And when he saw them, he said unto them, Go shew yourselves unto the priests. And it came to pass, that, as they went, they were cleansed.
17:15 And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, and with a loud voice glorified God,
17:16 And fell down on his face at his feet, giving him thanks: and he was a Samaritan.
17:17 And Jesus answering said, Were there not ten cleansed? but where are the nine?
17:18 There are not found that returned to give glory to God, save this stranger.
17:19 And he said unto him, Arise, go thy way: thy faith hath made thee whole.

2). Jesus spoke of “great faith” (Matthew 8:10), and in Matthew 14:31 Jesus spoke of “little faith”. Paul thanked God for exceedingly growing “faith” (2 Thessalonians 1:3). Those “full of faith” do “great wonders and miracles” (Acts 6:8), while those in unbelief are rebuked by Jesus and called “faithless and perverse” (Matthew 17:17). We have the Covenantal responsibility to obey the Scripture and read and study the word to cause faith to grow in our hearts. The word reproduces after its own kind, it will produce faith in our hearts if we study and meditate in it in obedience. It will also produce healing according to our faith! God is faithful. There is not one example in the gospels where Jesus did not heal an individual who came to him, but there are examples where men’s faith failed to get healing or because unbelief hindered Jesus from healing. This leads me to two of my favorite verses, Scriptures that exhort us to allow the word of grace to build us up in our faith and give us what was is provided in our inheritance through Christ Jesus and that the building up of our faith depends upon revelation.

a). Acts 20:32   And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified.

b). Romans 16:25, 26 Now to him that is of power to stablish you according to my gospel, and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began,
But now is made manifest, and by the scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, made known to all nations for the obedience of faith:
