And thou shalt eat before the Lord thy God, in the place which he shall choose to place his name there, the tithe of thy corn, of thy wine, and of thine oil, and the firstlings of thy herds and of thy flocks; that thou mayest learn to fear the Lord thy God always.

1). This commandment concerning the second tithe was given before the Israelites entered the land of Cannan. They did not know where the temple would end up being. The LORD knew but his covenant people did not. This almost identical phrase was used 7 times in Deuteronomy alone. Here in Deuteronomy 14:23; Deuteronomy 16:2; 26:2; 12:5; 12:11; 14:24; and 16:6.
