Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.

1. “Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets…”


a. Think [Strong: 3543. nomizo nom-id'-zo from 3551; properly, to do by law (usage), i.e. to accustom (passively, be usual); by extension, to deem or regard:-- suppose, thing, be wont.]


b. not [Strong: 3361. me may a primary particle of qualified negation (whereas 3756 expresses an absolute denial); (adverb) not, (conjunction) lest; also (as an interrogative implying a negative answer (whereas 3756 expects an affirmative one)) whether:--any but (that), X forbear, + God forbid, + lack, lest, neither, never, no (X wise in), none, nor, (can-)not, nothing, that not, un(-taken), without.]

Perry Stone Hebraic Prophetic Study Bible: The Law and the Prophets reveal numerous types and shadows of Christ through the seven yearly festivals and Sabbath’s, concealing the mysteries of the coming Messiah. Christ “fulfilled” the Law by fulfilling the expectations and requirements revealed in the Old Testament for the Jewish Messiah. For example, Christ was born of a virgin in Bethlehem, a city in the tribe of Judah, which fulfilled Isaiah 7:14 and Micah 5:2. He was the anticipated prophet “like unto Moses” prdicted in Deuteronomy 34:10. Christ was the Lamb of God (see John 1:29), and was crucified near Passover (see John 19:14), and was raised and seen alive during the time of the Firstfruits, and appeared to Thomas near the conclusion of the same feast, according to the timing of events related to Christ’s resurrection (see John 20:26). Christ never contradicted the Law of God in the Torah, but he did contradict the numerous man-made traditions established by the Pharisees (see Mark 7:3-13). When Christ was resurrected, He used the Law and the Prophets to prove His identity to the two men on the road to Emmaus, revealing that He was the Christ (see Luke 24:13-27). Christ fulfilled the ceremonial and sacrificial types, shadows and patterns found in the Law of Moses, thus He fulfilled the Law.
