And all that sat in the council, looking stedfastly on him, saw his face as it had been the face of an angel.

1. “And all that sat in the council, looking stedfastly on him, saw his face as it had been the face of an angel.”

And [Strong: 2532. kai kahee apparently, a primary particle, having a copulative and sometimes also a cumulative force; and, also, even, so then, too, etc.; often used in connection (or composition) with other particles or small words:--and, also, both, but, even, for, if, or, so, that, then, therefore, when, yet.]

b. all [Strong: 537. hapas hap'-as from 1 (as a particle of union) and 3956; absolutely all or (singular) every one:--all (things), every (one), whole.]

c. that [Strong: 3588. h. looking steadfastly [Strong: 816. atenizo at-en-id'-zo from a compound of 1 (as a particle of union) and teino (to stretch); to gaze intently:--behold earnestly (stedfastly), fasten (eyes), look (earnestly, stedfastly, up stedfastly), set eyes.]

c. as it had been Strong: 5616. hosei ho-si' from 5613 and 1487; as if:--about, as (it had been, it were), like (as).]

d. e. [of an] angel [Strong: 32. aggelos ang'-el-os from aggello (probably derived from 71; compare 34) (to bring tidings); a messenger; especially an "angel"; by implication, a pastor:--angel, messenger.]

1). Only the NLT mentions brightness on Stephen’s face, “because his face became as bright as an angel’s.” In more than a few examples when angels are seen they are shining brightly (Matthew 28:1-3). Moses himself when being in the presence of God, his face shone with God’s glory (Exodus 34:29-35).
