1). Our verse is a verse we are all thankful for. Psalm 130:3 [NIV] “If you, Lord, kept a record of sins, Lord, who could stand?” Praise God he doesn't keep a record of sins. And the psalmist was writing this under the Old Covenant when the best there was, was there sins were forgiven and covered by the blood of bulls on the Day of Atonement. Then the prophets could write: “He will turn again, he will have compassion upon us; he will subdue our iniquities; and thou wilt cast all their sins into the depths of the sea” (Micah 7:19). And “As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us” (Psalm 103:12). As good as that was, and it was good, the blood of bulls could only cover sin. But for us in the New Covenant because of the shed blood of Jesus it is so much more a better Covenant. There is not a yearly Day of Atonement, for it was all accomplished in the one sacrifice of Christ Jesus. As the book of Hebrews declares: “For by one sacrifice he has made perfect forever those who are being made holy. 10:15 The Holy Spirit also testifies to us about this. First he says: 10:16 “This is the covenant I will make with them after that time, says the Lord. I will put my laws in their hearts, and I will write them on their minds.” 10:17 Then he adds: “Their sins and lawless acts I will remember no more.” 10:18 And where these have been forgiven, sacrifice for sin is no longer necessary.” Our sins are not only forgiven but forgotten, their gone. Praise God!
