Isaiah 60:11

Isaiah 60:11

Therefore thy gates shall be open continually; they shall not be shut day nor night; that men may bring unto thee the forces of the Gentiles, and that their kings may be brought.

a. NLT: Your gates will stay open day and night to receive the wealth of many lands.
The kings of the world will be led as captives in a victory procession.

b. NIV: Your gates will always stand open, they will never be shut, day or night, so that people may bring you the wealth of the nations— their kings led in triumphal procession.

c. YLT: And opened have thy gates continually, By day and by night they are not shut, To bring unto thee the force of nations, Even their kings are led.

d. Amplified: And your gates shall be open continually, they shall not be shut day or night, that men may bring to you the wealth of the nations—and their kings led in procession [your voluntary captives].

e. Septuagint: And thy gates shall be opened continually; they shall not be shut day nor night; to bring in to thee the power of the Gentiles, and their kings as captives.

f. Stone Edition Torah/Writings/Prophets: Your gates will be opened continuously, day and night they will not be closed; for [them] to bring you the wealth of nations, and their kings under escort

1. “Therefore thy gates shall be open continually; they shall not be shut day nor night…”

a. thy gates [8179 * sha’ar] [Strong: from 8176 in its original sense; an opening, i.e. door or gate:--city, door, gate, port (X -er).]

b. open[6605 * pathach] [Strong: a primitive root; to open wide (literally or figuratively); specifically, to loosen, begin, plough, carve:--appear, break forth, draw (out), let go free, (en-)grave(-n), loose (self), (be, be set) open(-ing), put off, ungird, unstop, have vent.]

c. continually [8548 * tamiyd] [Strong: from an unused root meaning to stretch; properly, continuance (as indefinite extension); but used only (attributively as adjective) constant (or adverbially, constantly); ellipt. the regular (daily) sacrifice:--alway(-s), continual (employment, -ly), daily, ((n-))ever(-more), perpetual.]

d. shut [5462 * cagar] [Strong: a primitive root; to shut up; figuratively, to surrender:--close up, deliver (up), give over (up), inclose, X pure, repair, shut (in, self, out, up, up together), stop, X straitly.]

e. day [3119 * yowmam] [Strong: from 3117; daily:--daily, (by, in the) day(-time).]

f. night [3915 * layil] [Strong: from the same as 3883; properly, a twist (away of the light), i.e. night; figuratively, adversity:--((mid-))night (season).]

1). Dake: The gates of earthly Jerusalem will be kept open day and night, like those of heavenly Jerusalem when it comes down to earth after the Millennium.

a). Revelation 21:24-26 And the nations of them which are saved shall walk in the light of it: and the kings of the earth do bring their glory and honour into it.
21:25 And the gates of it shall not be shut at all by day: for there shall be no night there.
21:26 And they shall bring the glory and honour of the nations into it.

2). I have to agree with Dake. Many of the same characteristics of the Millennium will be in the Perfect Age, but in a less perfected form. The reference in Revelation 21 is obviously in the Perfect Age as evident by the fact the whole of chapter 21 is about New Jerusalem which will not come down to earth until after the Millennium and after the heavens and earth are recreated. During the Millennial reign of Christ there will be a transitional period where there will be a complete realignment from the top down of everything on this earth to the will of God. All spiritual, material, social and cultural error will be removed. During this period individuals and nations will be forced to serve the King Christ Jesus. During this time Israel will be exalted among the nations of the earth.

a). Isaiah 60:12-22 For the nation and kingdom that will not serve thee shall perish; yea, those nations shall be utterly wasted.
60:13 The glory of Lebanon shall come unto thee, the fir tree, the pine tree, and the box together, to beautify the place of my sanctuary; and I will make the place of my feet glorious.
60:14 The sons also of them that afflicted thee shall come bending unto thee; and all they that despised thee shall bow themselves down at the soles of thy feet; and they shall call thee, The city of the LORD, The Zion of the Holy One of Israel.
60:15 Whereas thou hast been forsaken and hated, so that no man went through thee, I will make thee an eternal excellency, a joy of many generations.
60:16 Thou shalt also suck the milk of the Gentiles, and shalt suck the breast of kings: and thou shalt know that I the LORD am thy Saviour and thy Redeemer, the mighty One of Jacob.
60:17 For brass I will bring gold, and for iron I will bring silver, and for wood brass, and for stones iron: I will also make thy officers peace, and thine exactors righteousness.
60:18 Violence shall no more be heard in thy land, wasting nor destruction within thy borders; but thou shalt call thy walls Salvation, and thy gates Praise.
60:19 The sun shall be no more thy light by day; neither for brightness shall the moon give light unto thee: but the LORD shall be unto thee an everlasting light, and thy God thy glory.
60:20 Thy sun shall no more go down; neither shall thy moon withdraw itself: for the LORD shall be thine everlasting light, and the days of thy mourning shall be ended.
60:21 Thy people also shall be all righteous: they shall inherit the land for ever, the branch of my planting, the work of my hands, that I may be glorified.
60:22 A little one shall become a thousand, and a small one a strong nation: I the LORD will hasten it in his time.

3). It is during the Millennium that saints faithful during the Church Age will be exalted to be the rulers on this earth.

a). Revelation 20:4 And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.

b). See also Luke 19:11-27

2. “…that men may bring unto thee the forces of the Gentiles, and that their kings may be brought.”

a. that men may bring [935 * bow’] [Strong: a primitive root; to go or come (in a wide variety of applications):--abide, apply, attain, X be, befall, + besiege, bring (forth, in, into, to pass), call, carry, X certainly, (cause, let, thing for) to come (against, in, out, upon, to pass), depart, X doubtless again, + eat, + employ, (cause to) enter (in, into, -tering, -trance, -try), be fallen, fetch, + follow, get, give, go (down, in, to war), grant, + have, X indeed, (in-)vade, lead, lift (up), mention, pull in, put, resort, run (down), send, set, X (well) stricken (in age), X surely, take (in), way.]

1). I like the Amplified Translation: “…that men may bring to you the wealth of the nations, and their kings led in procession your voluntary captives.”

b. the forces [2428 * chayil][Strong: strength, might, efficiency, wealth, army.]

c. of the Gentiles [1471 * gowy] [Strong: rarely (shortened) goy {go'-ee}; apparently from the same root as 1465 (in the sense of massing); a foreign nation; hence, a Gentile; also (figuratively) a troop of animals, or a flight of locusts:--Gentile, heathen, nation, people.]

d. and their kings [4428 * melek] [Strong: from 4427; a king:--king, royal.]

e. brought [5090 * nahag] [Strong: a primitive root; to drive forth (a person, an animal or chariot), i.e. lead, carry away; reflexively, to proceed (i.e. impel or guide oneself); also (from the panting induced by effort), to sigh:--acquaint, bring (away), carry away, drive (away), lead (away, forth), (be) guide, lead (away, forth).]

1). Most of Isaiah 60 deals with Israel during the millennial reign of Christ and the wealth of the nations coming into Israel. Actually the whole passage of Isaiah 60:4-17 deals with the wealth of the earth coming into Israel. A comparative passage to Isaiah 60:11 is found in Revelation, but as previously mentioned it is referring to the Perfect Age that will follow the Millennial Reign of Christ Jesus on the earth.

a). Revelation 21:24-26 And the nations of them which are saved shall walk in the light of it: and the kings of the earth do bring their glory and honour into it.
21:25 And the gates of it shall not be shut at all by day: for there shall be no night there.
21:26 And they shall bring the glory and honour of the nations into it.

b). The context for Revelation 21:24-26 is after the thousand year reign of Jesus Christ.

c). Revelation 21:1 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away: and there was no more sea.

d). Revelation 21:10 And he carried me away in the spirit to a great and high mountain, and shewed me that great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of the heaven from God.
