Acts 16:15

Acts 16:15

And when she was baptized, and her household, she besought us, saying, If ye have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come into my house, and abide there. And she constrained us.

a. NLT: She was baptized along with other members of her household, and she asked us to be her guests. “If you agree that I am a true believer in the Lord,” she said, “come and stay at my home.” And she urged us until we agreed.

b. NIV: When she and the members of her household were baptized, she invited us to her home. “If you consider me a believer in the Lord,” she said, “come and stay at my house.” And she persuaded us.

c. YLT: And when she was baptized, and her household, she did call upon us, saying, 'If ye have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, having entered into my house, remain;' and she constrained us.

d. Amplified Bible: And when she was baptized along with her household, she earnestly entreated us, saying, If in your opinion I am one really convinced [that Jesus is the Messiah and the Author of salvation] and that I will be faithful to the Lord, come to my house and stay. And she induced us [to do it].

e. Worrell Translation: And when she was immersed, and her household, she besought us, saying, “If ye have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, having entered into my house, abide there.” And she constrained us.

f. Wuest Translation: Now, when she was baptized and her household, she begged us, saying, Since you have judged me to be a believer on the Lord, having come into my home, be my guest for a while. And she, by her entreaties, persuaded us to accept her hospitality.

Soon the Lord opened her heart to give full attention to the things Paul was saying. The result was she believed the gospel and was baptized in water along with her entire household, that is, he staff and servants. By her influence they also believed, and together they became the first body of believers in Europe…By winning her household to the Lord, Lydia demonstrated her own faithfulness to the Lord. On this basis she besought Paul and his entire company to make her large home their home and headquarters. Then she kept urging them until they finally did so.
