Jeremiah 17:6

Jeremiah 17:6

For he shall be like the heath in the desert, and shall not see when good cometh; but shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness, in a salt land and not inhabited.

a. ASV: For he shall be like the heath in the desert, and shall not see when good cometh, but shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness, a salt land and not inhabited.

b. YLT: And he hath been as a naked thing in a desert, And doth not see when good cometh, And hath inhabited parched places in a wilderness, A salt land, and not inhabited.

c. Classic Amplified: For he shall be like a shrub or a person naked and destitute in the desert; and he shall not see any good come, but shall dwell in the parched places in the wilderness, in an uninhabited salt land.

d. Septuagint:  And he shall be as the wild tamarisk in the desert: he shall not see when good comes; but he shall dwell in barren [places], and in the wilderness, in a salt land which is not inhabited.

e. Stone Edition Torah/Prophets/ Writings: He will be like a lone tree in the desert, and will not see when goodness comes; it dwells in parched lands in the wilderness, in an salty, uninhabited land.

1. “For he shall be like the heath in the desert…”

a. d.  [in the] desert [Strong: 6160 ʻărâbâh, ar-aw-baw'; from H6150 (in the sense of sterility); a desert; especially (with the article prefix) the (generally) sterile valley of the Jordan and its continuation to the Red Sea:—Arabah, champaign, desert, evening, heaven, plain, wilderness.]

2. “...and shall not see when good cometh…”

a. e. cometh [Strong: 935 bôwʼ, bo; a primitive root; to go or come (in a wide variety of applications):—abide, apply, attain, × be, befall, besiege, bring (forth, in, into, to pass), call, carry, × certainly, (cause, let, thing for) to come (against, in, out, upon, to pass), depart, × doubtless again, eat, employ, (cause to) enter (in, into, -tering, -trance, -try), be fallen, fetch, follow, get, give, go (down, in, to war), grant, have, × indeed, (in-) vade, lead, lift (up), mention, pull in, put, resort, run (down), send, set, × (well) stricken (in age), × surely, take (in), way.]

1). This individual has lost his spiritual senses. We are three part beings, spirit, soul and body

a). 1 Thessalonians 5:23 And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

2). As spirit beings we not only have the natural senses of taste, touch, smell, sight, and hearing, we have spiritual senses also. In Matthew 13:9 when Jesus said,  “Who hath ears to hear, let him hear.” He wasn’t referring to physical ears, he was referring to spiritual ears. The thirst referred to in Isaiah 55:1 is not physical thirst, its spiritual.

a). Psalm 42:1, 2 As the deer panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God.
42:2 My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God: when shall I come and appear before God?

b). Psalm 143:6 I stretch forth my hands unto thee: my soul thirsteth after thee, as a thirsty land.

3). The spiritual sense that this individual lost is the spieitual sense of sight.

a). 2 Peter 1:8, 9 For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
1:9 But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins.

3. “...but shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness, in a salt land and not inhabited.” 

a. [but shall] inhabit [Strong: 7931 shâkan, shaw-kan'; a primitive root (apparently akin (by transmission) to H7901 through the idea of lodging; compare H5531, H7925); to reside or permanently stay (literally or figuratively):—abide, continue, (cause to, make to) dwell(-er), have habitation, inhabit, lay, place, (cause to) remain, rest, set (up).]

b. [the] parched places [Strong: 2788  chârêr, khaw-rare'; from H2787; arid:—parched place.]

1). Because this individual dwells, continues, inhabits the parched places and because of that, they will wither up and die.

a). Luke 8:5, 6  A sower went out to sow his seed: and as he sowed, some fell by the way side; and it was trodden down, and the fowls of the air devoured it.
8:6 And some fell upon a rock; and as soon as it was sprung up, it withered away, because it lacked moisture.

c. [in the] wilderness [Strong: 4057 midbâr, mid-bawr'; from H1696 in the sense of driving; a pasture (i.e. open field, whither cattle are driven); by implication, a desert; also speech (including its organs):—desert, south, speech, wilderness.]

d. [in a] salt [Strong: 4420 mᵉlêchâh, mel-ay-khaw'; from H4414 (in its denominative sense); understood as land (H776) properly, salted (i.e. land), i.e. a desert:—barren land(-ness), salt (land).]

e. land [Strong: 776 ʼerets, eh'-rets; from an unused root probably meaning to be firm; the earth (at large, or partitively a land):—× common, country, earth, field, ground, land, × natins, way, + wilderness, world.]

f. [and] not [Strong: 3808 lo' lo or lowi {lo}; or loh (Deut. 3:11) {lo}; a primitive particle; not (the simple or abs. negation); by implication, no; often used with other particles (as follows):--X before, + or else, ere, + except, ig(-norant), much, less, nay, neither, never, no((-ne), -r, (-thing)), (X as though...,(can-), for) not (out of), of nought, otherwise, out of, + surely, + as truly as, + of a truth, + verily, for want, + whether, without.]

g. inhabited [Strong: 3427 yâshab, yaw-shab'; a primitive root; properly, to sit down (specifically as judge. in ambush, in quiet); by implication, to dwell, to remain; causatively, to settle, to marry:—(make to) abide(-ing), continue, (cause to, make to) dwell(-ing), ease self, endure, establish, × fail, habitation, haunt, (make to) inhabit(-ant), make to keep (house), lurking, × marry(-ing), (bring again to) place, remain, return, seat, set(-tle), (down-) sit(-down, still, -ting down, -ting (place) -uate), take, tarry.]
