 Joel 1:9

The meat offering and the drink offering is cut off from the house of the LORD; the priests, the LORD'S ministers, mourn.

1. “The meat offering and the drink offering is cut off from the house of the LORD…”


a.  [The] meat offering [Strong: 4503 minchah min-khaw' from an unused root meaning to apportion, i.e. bestow; a donation; euphemistically, tribute; specifically a sacrificial offering (usually bloodless and voluntary):--gift, oblation, (meat) offering, present, sacrifice.]


b. [and the] drink offering [Strong: 5262 necek neh'-sek or necek {nay'-sek}; from 5258; a libation; also a cast idol:--cover, drink offering, molten image.]


c. [is] cut off [Strong: 3772 karath kaw-rath' a primitive root; to cut (off, down or asunder); by implication, to destroy or consume; specifically, to covenant (i.e. make an alliance or bargain, originally by cutting flesh and passing between the pieces):--be chewed, be con-(feder-)ate, covenant, cut (down, off), destroy, fail, feller, be freed, hew (down), make a league ((covenant)), X lose, perish, X utterly, X want.]

c. ministers [Strong: 8334 sharath shaw-rath' a primitive root; to attend as a menial or worshipper; figuratively, to contribute to:--minister (unto), (do) serve(- ant, -ice, -itor), wait on.]


d. mourn [Strong: 56 'abal aw-bal' a primitive root; to bewail:--lament, mourn.]


1). J. Vernon McGee: This verse and other verses lead us to believe that the prophet Joel was in Jerusalem. He speaks here to the priests eho minister in the house of the Lord.
