Joel 1:15
Alas for the day! for the day of the LORD is at hand, and as a destruction from the Almighty shall it come.

1. “Alas for the day! for the day of the LORD is at hand…”
a. Alas [Strong: 162 'ahahh a-haw' apparently a primitive word expressing pain exclamatorily; Oh!:--ah, alas.]
b. 1). J. Vernon McGee: The prophecy of Joel contains only three very brief chapters, but it holds an important position in Scripture. As the first of writing prophets, it is Joel who introduces and defines the term, “the day of the LORD”.
2). Conservative scholarship dates Joel to the pre exilic reign of Joash (835-796 B.C.). That is previous to any other prophet who wrote down his prophecies. Though Jude writes that Enoch prophesied of the return of Christ, he does not refer to it as the day of the Lord, but that is surely what it is.
3). The day of the Lord. 23 times in the Scripture.
a). Isaiah 2:12 For the day of the LORD of hosts shall be upon every one that is proud and lofty, and upon every one that is lifted up; and he shall be brought low:
b). Isaiah 13:6 Howl ye; for the day of the LORD is at hand; it shall come as a destruction from the Almighty.
