And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her.

World Outreach Church 10/24/11 When the angel appeared to Mary and told her she, a virgin, would have a son, she didn’t say, “I don’t believe this.” She didn’t say, “Give me a sign that this is really true.” She simply questioned how it could happen, saying, “How shall this be, seeing I know not a man?” (Luke 1:34). She was saying, “I don’t know how it’s going to happen; but you said it so I believe it.” Verse 38 says, “And Mary said…be it unto me according to thy word.” The angel Gabriel appeared to Zacharias and Mary, bringing the promise of a child to both. To Zacharias it was difficult to believe because he and his wife were old. To Mary it was impossible to believe because she was a virgin. Zacharias doubted and said, “I don’t know whether I can believe that.” He had to have his mouth closed for months so he wouldn’t disagree with God’s plan. But Mary simply said, “I believe it!” Verse 45 tells us the result of Mary’s faith: “Blessed is she that believed: for there shall be a performance of those things which were told her from the Lord.” Words make a difference! So, pick yours carefully so there will also be a performance of those things which have been told you from the Lord.
