The oath which he sware to our father Abraham,

1. “The oath which he sware to our father Abraham,”

a. [The] oath [Strong: 3727 hórkos, hor'-kos; from ἕρκος hérkos (a fence; perhaps akin to G3725); a limit, i.e. (sacred) restraint (specially, an oath):—oath.]

b. which [Strong: 3739 hós, hos; probably a primary word (or perhaps a form of the article G3588); the relatively (sometimes demonstrative) pronoun, who, which, what, that:—one, (an-, the) other, some, that, what, which, who(-m, -se), etc.]

c. [he] sware [Strong: 3660 omnýō, om-noo'-o; a prolonged form of a primary, but obsolete ὄμω ómō, for which another prolonged form ὀμόω omóō om-o'-o is used in certain tenses; to swear, i.e. take (or declare on) oath:—swear.]

d. to [Strong: 4314 prós, pros; a strengthened form of G4253; a preposition of direction; forward to, i.e. toward (with the genitive case, the side of, i.e. pertaining to; with the dative case, by the side of, i.e. near to; usually with the accusative case, the place, time, occasion, or respect, which is the destination of the relation, i.e. whither or for which it is predicated):—about, according to , against, among, at, because of, before, between, ([where-]) by, for, × at thy house, in, for intent, nigh unto, of, which pertain to, that, to (the end that), + together, to ([you]) -ward, unto, with (-in). 2). Specifically this is the sworn promise given after Abraham’s obedience to sacrifice Isaac.

22:16 And said, By myself have I sworn, saith the Lord, for because thou hast done this thing, and hast not withheld thy son, thine only son:

22:17 That in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies;

22:18 And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice.
