Romans 1:19

Romans 1:19

Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them.

a. NLT: They know the truth about God because he has made it obvious to them.

b. NIV: since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them.

c. Young’s Literal Translation: Because that which is known of God is manifest among them, for God did manifest it to them,

d. Amplified Bible: For that which is known about God is evident to them and made plain in their inner consciousness, because God [Himself] has shown it to them.

e. Worrell Translation: Because that which is known of God is manifested in them: for God manifested it to them.  

1. “Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them…”

a. Because [1360 * dioti] [Strong:  from 1223 and 3754; on the very account that, or inasmuch as:--because (that), for, therefore.]

b. that which may be known [1110 * gnostos] [Strong: from 1097; well-known:--acquaintance, (which may be) known, notable.] [Thayer: known, notable.]

c. of God [2316 * theos] [Strong: of uncertain affinity; a deity, especially (with 3588) the supreme Divinity; figuratively, a magistrate; by Hebraism, very:--X exceeding, God, god(-ly, -ward).]

d. is [2076 * esti] [Strong: third person singular present indicative of 1510; he (she or it) is; also (with neuter plural) they are:--are, be(-long), call, X can(-not), come, consisteth, X dure for a while, + follow, X have, (that) is (to say), make, meaneth, X must needs, + profit, + remaineth, + wrestle.]

e. manifest [5318 * phaneros][Strong: shining, i.e. apparent (literally or figuratively); neuter (as adverb) publicly, externally:--abroad, + appear, known, manifest, open (+ -ly), outward (+ -ly).][Thayer: apparent, manifest, evident, known, manifest,i.e.,to be plainly recognized or known.]

2. “…for God hath shewed it unto them.”

1). There are only two times in world history when this could have happened, after the fall of man and after the flood of Noah. There had to be a falling away in both instances. The details may be a little different but the result was the same. The details given in this account in Romans probably fit the after flood scene better. God made himself known to these people. He manifested himself to them. These events took place around the first three centuries after the flood of Noah.
