Ephesians 1:16

Ephesians 1:16

Cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers;

a. NLT: I have not stopped thanking God for you. I pray for you constantly,

b. NIV: I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers.

c. YLT: Do not cease giving thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers,

d. Amplified Bible Classic: I do not cease to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers.

e. Worrell Translation: Cease not to give thanks on your behalf, making mention of you in my prayers.

f. Wuest Translation: Do not cease giving thanks for you as I constantly make mention of you in my prayers,

1. “Cease not to give thanks for you…”

a. Cease [Strong: 3973 pauo pow'-o a primary verb ("pause"); to stop (transitively or intransitively), i.e. restrain, quit, desist, come to an end:--cease, leave, refrain.]

b. not [Strong: 3756 ou oo, also (before a vowel) ouk ook, and (before an aspirate) ouch ookh a primary word; the absolute negative (compare 3361) adverb; no or not:--+ long, nay, neither, never, no (X man), none, (can-)not, + nothing, + special, un(-worthy), when, + without, + yet but.]

c. to give thanks [Strong: 2168 eucharisteo yoo-khar-is-teh'-o from 2170; to be grateful, i.e. (actively) to express gratitude (towards); specially, to say grace at a meal:--(give) thank(-ful, -s).]

d. for [Strong: 5228 huper hoop-er' a primary preposition; "over", i.e. (with the genitive case) of place, above, beyond, across, or causal, for the sake of, instead, regarding; with the accusative case superior to, more than:--(+ exceeding, abundantly) above, in (on) behalf of, beyond, by, + very chiefest, concerning, exceeding (above, -ly), for, + very highly, more (than), of, over, on the part of, for sake of, in stead, than, to(-ward), very. In the comparative, it retains many of the above applications.]

2. “…making mention of you in my prayers;”

c. of you [Strong: 5216 humon hoo-mone' genitive case of 5210; of (from or concerning) you:--ye, you, your (own, -selves).]

d. in [Strong: 1909 epi ep-ee' a primary preposition; properly, meaning superimposition (of time, place, order, etc.), as a relation of distribution (with the genitive case), i.e. over, upon, etc.; of rest (with the dative case) at, on, etc.; of direction (with the accusative case) towards, upon, etc.:--about (the times), above, after, against, among, as long as (touching), at, beside, X have charge of, (be-, (where-))fore, in (a place, as much as, the time of, -to), (because) of, (up-)on (behalf of), over, (by, for) the space of, through(-out), (un-)to(-ward), with.
