Whereunto I also labour, striving according to his working, which worketh in me mightily.

1. “Whereunto I also labour…”

 

a. Whereunto [Strong: 1519 eis ice a primary preposition; to or into (indicating the point reached or entered), of place, time, or (figuratively) purpose (result, etc.); also in adverbial phrases:--(abundant-)ly, against, among, as, at, (back-)ward, before, by, concerning, + continual, + far more exceeding, for (intent, purpose), fore, + forth, in (among, at, unto, -so much that, -to), to the intent that, + of one mind, + never, of, (up-)on, + perish, + set at one again, (so) that, therefore(-unto), throughout, til, to (be, the end, -ward), (here-)until(-to), ...ward, (where-)fore, with. 1). As Paul labored and as we labor it is only us yielding or believing God for the empowerment that He has provided in His grace.

2. “…striving according to his working…”

 

a. striving [Strong: 75 agonizomai ag-o-nid'-zom-ahee from 73; to struggle, literally (to compete for a prize), figuratively (to contend with an adversary), or genitive case (to endeavor to accomplish something):--fight, labor fervently, strive.] [Thayer: To enter a contest, to contend in the gymnastic games, to contend with adversaries, fight, to contend with difficulties and dangers, to endeavor with strenuous zeal, to strive.]

working [Strong: 1753 energeia en-erg'-i-ah from 1756; efficiency ("energy"):--operation, strong, (effectual) working.]

 

1). His working is providing empowerment by the Spirit and His word.

 

a). 1 Thessalonians 2:13 For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe.

 

3. “…which worketh in me mightily.”

e. mightily [Strong: 1411 dunamis doo'-nam-is from 1410; force (literally or figuratively); specially, miraculous power (usually by implication, a miracle itself):--ability, abundance, meaning, might(-ily, -y, -y deed), (worker of) miracle(-s), power, strength, violence, mighty (wonderful) work.]
