Philippians 3:5

Circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, an Hebrew of the Hebrews; as touching the law, a Pharisee;

a. NLT: I was circumcised when I was eight days old. I am a pure-blooded citizen of Israel and a member of the tribe of Benjamin—a real Hebrew if there ever was one! I was a member of the Pharisees, who demand the strictest obedience to the Jewish law.

b. NIV: Circumcised on the eighth day, of the people of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of Hebrews; in regard to the law, a Pharisee;

c. YLT: Circumcision on the eighth day! of the race of Israel! of the tribe of Benjamin! a Hebrew of Hebrews! according to law a Pharisee!

d. Amplified Bible Classic: Circumcised when I was eight days old, of the race of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew [and the son] of Hebrews; as to the observance of the Law I was of [the party of] the Pharisees,

f. Wuest Translation: Eight days old in circumcision, my origin from Israelitish stock, belonging to the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew from true Hebrew parents [i.e., not a Hellenist], with reference to the law, a Pharisee.

1. “Circumcised the eighth day…”

a. Circumcised [Strong: 4061 peritome per-it-om-ay' from 4059; circumcision (the rite, the condition or the people, literally or figuratively):--X circumcised, circumcision.]

b. the eighth day [Strong: 3637 oktaemeros ok-tah-ay'-mer-os from 3638 and 2250; an eight-day old person or act:--the eighth day.]

1). Under the law of Moses Jewish males were to be circised on the eithth day after their birth.

a). Leviticus 12:1-3 And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,

12:2 Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, If a woman have conceived seed, and born a man child: then she shall be unclean seven days; according to the days of the separation for her infirmity shall she be unclean.

12:3 And in the eighth day the flesh of his foreskin shall be circumcised.

2. “…of the stock of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, an Hebrew of the Hebrews…”

c. of Israel [Strong: 2474 Israel is-rah-ale' of Hebrew origin (3478); Israel (i.e. Jisrael), the adopted name of Jacob, including his descendants (literally or figuratively):--Israel.]

d. of the tribe [Strong: 5443 phule foo-lay' from 5453 (compare 5444); an offshoot, i.e. race or clan:--kindred, tribe.]

e. of Benjamin [Strong: 958 Beniamin ben-ee-am-een' of Hebrew origin (1144); Benjamin, an Israelite:--Benjamin.]

f. an Hebrew [Strong: 1445 Hebraios heb-rah'-yos from 1443; a Hebræan (i.e. Hebrew) or Jew:--Hebrew.]

3. “…as touching the law, a Pharisee.”
