2 Corinthians 11:33

And through a window in a basket was I let down by the wall, and escaped his hands.

a. NLT: I had to be lowered in a basket through a window in the city wall to escape from him.

b. NIV: But I was lowered in a basket from a window in the wall and slipped through his hands.

c. YLT: And through a window in a rope basket I was let down, through the wall, and fled out of his hands.

d. Amplified Bible Classic: And I was [actually] let down in a [rope] basket or hamper through a window (a small door) in the wall, and I escaped through his fingers.

e. Worrell Translation: And through a window I was let down in a basket byt the wall, and escaped his hands.

f. Wuest Translation: And through a window I was let down in a rope basket through [a window in] the wall and escaped out of his hands.

1. “And through a window in a basket was I let down by the wall, and escaped his hands.”

a. c. a window [Strong: 2376 thuris thoo-rece' from 2374; an aperture, i.e. window:--window.]

i. wall [Strong: 5038 teichos ti'-khos akin to the base of 5088; a wall (as formative of a house):--wall.]

k. escaped [Strong: 1628 ekpheugo ek-fyoo'-go from 1537 and 5343; to flee out:--escape, flee.]

l. his [Strong: 846  autos ow-tos' from the particle au (perhaps akin to the base of 109 through the idea of a baffling wind) (backward); the reflexive pronoun self, used (alone or in the comparative 1438) of the third person , and (with the proper personal pronoun) of the other persons:--her, it(-self), one, the other, (mine) own, said, (self-), the) same, ((him-, my-, thy- )self, (your-)selves, she, that, their(-s), them(-selves), there(-at, - by, -in, -into, -of, -on, -with), they, (these) things, this (man), those, together, very, which.]

m. hands [Strong: 5495 cheir khire perhaps from the base of 5494 in the sense of its congener the base of 5490 (through the idea of hollowness for grasping); the hand (literally or figuratively (power); especially (by Hebraism) a means or instrument):--hand.]

1). This is reflecting back during the first few years after Paul’s conversion. Saul/Paul spent 3 years in Damascus where his preaching became so convincing and irrefutable they planned to kill him. The governor’s name is not given but the king’s name is. It appears the Jewish community convinced the governor to arrest Saul/Paul.

a). Acts 9:22-25  But Saul increased the more in strength, and confounded the Jews which dwelt at Damascus, proving that this is very Christ.

9:23 And after that many days were fulfilled, the Jews took counsel to kill him:

9:24 But their laying await was known of Saul. And they watched the gates day and night to kill him.

9:25 Then the disciples took him by night, and let him down by the wall in a basket.
