Acts 14:6

They were ware of it, and fled unto Lystra and Derbe, cities of Lycaonia, and unto the region that lieth round about:

a. NLT: When the apostles learned of it they fled to the region of Lycaonia—to the towns of Lystra and Derbe and the surrounding area.

b. NIV: But they found out about it and fled to the Lycaonian cities of Lystra and Derbe and to the surrounding country,

c. YLT: They having become aware did flee to the cities of Lycaonia, Lystra, and Derbe, and to the region round about,

1. “They were ware of it, and fled unto Lystra and Derbe, cities of Lycaonia…”

g. They were ware of it [Strong: 4894 suneido soon-i'-do from 4862 and 1492; to see completely; used (like its primary) only in two past tenses, respectively meaning to understand or become aware, and to be conscious or (clandestinely) informed of:--consider, know, be privy, be ware of.]

a. and fled [Strong: 2703 katapheugo kat-af-yoo'-go from 2596 and 5343; to flee down (away):--flee.]

b. unto [Strong: 1519 eis ice a primary preposition; to or into (indicating the point reached or entered), of place, time, or (figuratively) purpose (result, etc.); also in adverbial phrases:--(abundant-)ly, against, among, as, at, (back-)ward, before, by, concerning, + continual, + far more exceeding, for (intent, purpose), fore, + forth, in (among, at, unto, -so much that, -to), to the intent that, + of one mind, + never, of, (up-)on, + perish, + set at one again, (so) that, therefore(-unto), throughout, til, to (be, the end, -ward), (here-)until(-to), ...ward, (where-)fore, with. c. Lystra [Strong: 3082 Lustra loos'-trah of uncertain origin; Lystra, a place in Asia Minor:--Lystra.]

d. and [Strong: 2532 * kai kahee apparently, a primary particle, having a copulative and sometimes also a cumulative force; and, also, even, so then, too, etc.; often used in connection (or composition) with other particles or small words:--and, also, both, but, even, for, if, or, so, that, then, therefore, when, yet.]

e. Derbe [Strong: 1191 Derbe der-bay' of foreign origin; Derbe, a place in Asia Minor:--Derbe.]

f. cities [Strong: 4172 polis pol'-is probably from the same as 4171, or perhaps from 4183; a town (properly, with walls, of greater or less size):--city.]

g. [of] Lycaonia [Strong: 3071 Lukaonia loo-kah-on-ee'-ah perhaps remotely from 3074; Lycaonia, a region of Asia Minor:--Lycaonia.]

2. “…and unto the region that lieth round about:”

a. and [Strong: 2532 * kai kahee apparently, a primary particle, having a copulative and sometimes also a cumulative force; and, also, even, so then, too, etc.; often used in connection (or composition) with other particles or small words:--and, also, both, but, even, for, if, or, so, that, then, therefore, when, yet.]

b. [unto the] region that lieth round about [Strong: 4066 perichoros per-ikh'-o-ros from 4012 and 5561; around the region, i.e. circumjacent (as noun, with 1093 implied vicinity):--country (round) about, region (that lieth) round about.]

Acts of the Apostles, Tourville, page 258: They “fled to the cities of Lycaonia, Lystra and Derbe, and the surrounding region.” This area has but few Jews and these are rural centers not distant from each other. No mention of synagogues or jews in these two towns. Timothy a half Jew lived in Lystra according to the record of the second missionary journey. Nearly all these people were Gentiles. This is a departure from the usual method of the missionaries to seek out cities which had a sizable Jewish population.
