Acts 14:28

And there they abode long time with the disciples.

a. NLT: And they stayed there with the believers for a long time.

b. NIV: And they stayed there a long time with the disciples.

c. YLT: And they abode there not a little time with the disciples.

e. Worrell Translation: And they abode there not a little time with the disciples.

1. “And there they abode long time with the disciples.”

a. And [Strong: 1161 de deh a primary particle (adversative or continuative); but, and, etc.:--also, and, but, moreover, now (often unexpressed in English).]

b. there [Strong: 1563 ekei ek-i' of uncertain affinity; there; by extension, thither:--there, thither(-ward), (to) yonder (place).]

c. they abode [Strong: 1304 diatribo dee-at-ree'-bo from 1223 and the base of 5147; to wear through (time), i.e. remain:--abide, be, continue, tarry.]

d. [Strong: 3756 ou oo, also (before a vowel) ouk ook, and (before an aspirate) ouch ookh a primary word; the absolute negative (compare 3361) adverb; no or not:--+ long, nay, neither, never, no (X man), none, (can-)not, + nothing, + special, un(-worthy), when, + without, + yet but.]

e. [Strong: 3641oligos ol-ee'-gos of uncertain affinity; puny (in extent, degree, number, duration or value); especially neuter (adverbially) somewhat:--+ almost, brief(-ly), few, (a) little, + long, a season, short, small, a while.]

1). Why the King James and the NIV translators translated it the ways they did is unknown to me. The Greek wording clearly matches the other translations better. It says, “not a little”.  

f. time [Strong: 5550 chronos khron'-os of uncertain derivation; a space of time (in general, and thus properly distinguished from 2540, which designates a fixed or special occasion; and from 165, which denotes a particular period) or interval; by extension, an individual opportunity; by implication, delay:--+ years old, season, space, (X often-)time(-s), (a) while.]

g. with [Strong: 4862 sun soon a primary preposition denoting union; with or together (but much closer than 3326 or 3844), i.e. by association, companionship, process, resemblance, possession, instrumentality, addition, etc.:--beside, with. In composition it has similar applications, including completeness.]

h. the [Strong: 3588 ho ho, including the feminine he hay, and the neuter to to in all their inflections; the definite article; the (sometimes to be supplied, at others omitted, in English idiom):--the, this, that, one, he, she, it, etc.]

i. disciples [Strong: 3101  mathetes math-ay-tes' from 3129; a learner, i.e. pupil:--disciple.]

1). The Acts of the Apostles, Robert A. Tourville: The inclusion of the Gentiles without going through the process of proselytism added a new dimension to all they had believed and been taught. The transition was not easy, and it took a long period of time to transpire.

2). In the next chapter this monumental transition that God designed was threatened by those who did not want the status quo to change, even though it was God’s design planned before the foundation of the world.
