1. “And there came thither certain Jews from Antioch and Iconium…”

a. And [Strong: 1161 de deh a primary particle (adversative or continuative); but, and, etc.:--also, and, but, moreover, now (often unexpressed in English).]

c. [certain] Jews [Strong: 2453 Ioudaios ee-oo-dah'-yos from 2448 (in the sense of 2455 as a country); Judaean, i.e. belonging to Jehudah:--Jew(-ess), of Judaea.]

d. from [Strong: 575 apo apo' a primary particle; "off," i.e. away (from something near), in various senses (of place, time, or relation; literal or figurative):--(X here-)after, ago, at, because of, before, by (the space of), for(-th), from, in, (out) of, off, (up-)on(-ce), since, with. In composition (as a prefix) it usually denotes separation, departure, cessation, completion, reversal, etc.]

e. Antioch [Strong: 490 Antiocheia an-tee-okh'-i-ah from Antiochus (a Syrian king); Antiochia, a place in Syria:--Antioch.]

g. Iconium [Strong: 2430 Ikonion ee-kon'-ee-on perhaps from 1504; image-like; Iconium, a place in Asia Minor:--Iconium.]

1). The Jews in Antioch (in Asia Minor) who expelled him out of their city (Acts 13:50, 51) got together with the Jews from Iconium who attempted to stone him (Acts 14:5, 6) and came to Lystra. It is possible that they may have heard of Paul’s success in Lystra, or suspected that after he left their cities he inevitably would go to Lystra. Whatever the case they came to Lystra.

2. “…who persuaded the people, and, having stoned Paul…”

a. who [Strong: 2532 kai kahee apparently, a primary particle, having a copulative and sometimes also a cumulative force; and, also, even, so then, too, etc.; often used in connection (or composition) with other particles or small words:--and, also, both, but, even, for, if, or, so, that, then, therefore, when, yet.]

b. persuaded [Strong: 3982 peitho pi'-tho a primary verb; to convince (by argument, true or false); by analogy, to pacify or conciliate (by other fair means); reflexively or passively, to assent (to evidence or authority), to rely (by inward certainty):--agree, assure, believe, have confidence, be (wax) conflent, make friend, obey, persuade, trust, yield.]

c. the [Strong: 3588 ho ho, including the feminine he hay, and the neuter to to in all their inflections; the definite article; the (sometimes to be supplied, at others omitted, in English idiom):--the, this, that, one, he, she, it, etc.]

d. people [Strong: 3793 ochlos okh'los from a derivative of 2192 (meaning a vehicle); a throng (as borne along); by implication, the rabble; by extension, a class of people; figuratively, a riot:--company, multitude, number (of people), people, press.]

e. and [Strong: 2532 kai kahee apparently, a primary particle, having a copulative and sometimes also a cumulative force; and, also, even, so then, too, etc.; often used in connection (or composition) with other particles or small words:--and, also, both, but, even, for, if, or, so, that, then, therefore, when, yet.]

f. [having] stoned [Strong: 3034 lithazo lith-ad'-zo from 3037; to lapidate:--stone.]

g. Paul [Strong: 3972 Paulos pow'-los of Latin origin; (little; but remotely from a derivative of 3973, meaning the same); Paulus, the name of a Roman and of an apostle:--Paul, Paulus.]

1). They stoned him right in the city and dragged his body out afterward.

3. “…drew him out of the city, supposing he had been dead.”

a. drew [Strong: 4951 suro soo'-ro probably akin to 138; to trail:--drag, draw, hale.]    [Zodhiates: drag.]

b. [him] out of [Strong: 1854 exo ex'-o adverb from 1537; out(-side, of doors), literally or figuratively:--away, forth, (with-)out (of, -ward), strange.]

c. the [Strong: 3588 ho ho, including the feminine he hay, and the neuter to to in all their inflections; the definite article; the (sometimes to be supplied, at others omitted, in English idiom):--the, this, that, one, he, she, it, etc.]

d. city [Strong: 4172 polis pol'-is probably from the same as 4171, or perhaps from 4183; a town (properly, with walls, of greater or less size):--city.]

e. supposing [Strong: 3543 nomizo nom-id'-zo from 3551; properly, to do by law (usage), i.e. to accustom (passively, be usual); by extension, to deem or regard:-- suppose, thing, be wont.]

f. he [Strong: 846 autos ow-tos' from the particle au (perhaps akin to the base of 109 through the idea of a baffling wind) (backward); the reflexive pronoun self, used (alone or in the comparative 1438) of the third person , and (with the proper personal pronoun) of the other persons:--her, it(-self), one, the other, (mine) own, said, (self-), the) same, ((him-, my-, thy- )self, (your-)selves, she, that, their(-s), them(-selves), there(-at, - by, -in, -into, -of, -on, -with), they, (these) things, this (man), those, together, very, which.]

g. had been dead [Strong: 2348 thnesko thnay'-sko a strengthened form of a simpler primary thano than'-o (which is used for it only in certain tenses); to die (literally or figuratively):--be dead, die.]

1). The Scripture does not say for sure that Paul died, it says his executors thought he was dead. Scholars are not in agreement to whether he was dead or not. Dake says he was. Adam Clarke says he was. I am not convinced because when Paul mentioned the event he did not say he died (2 Corinthians 11:25).
