Genesis 3:17

And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life;

1. “And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife…”

e. [unto the] voice [Strong: 6963 qôwl, kole; or קֹל qôl; from an unused root meaning to call aloud; a voice or sound:—+ aloud, bleating, crackling, cry (+ out), fame, lightness, lowing, noise, + hold peace, (pro-) claim, proclamation, + sing, sound, + spark, thunder(-ing), voice, + yell.]

f. [of thy] wife [Strong: 802 ʼishshâh, ish-shaw'; feminine of H376 or H582; irregular plural, נָשִׁים nâshîym;(used in the same wide sense as H582) a woman:—(adulter) ess, each, every, female, × many, none, one, together, wife, woman. Often unexpressed in English.]

1). Adam heard and obeyed the voice of his wife rather than the word of God. Eve was deceived, but Adam was not.

a). 1 Timothy 2:14 And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression.

2). God had specifically told Adam not to eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

a). Genesis 2:15-17 And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.

2:16And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:

2:17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

b). Wives were given to man (one wife for one man) to be a helpmeet for him. There are surely times men should listen to his wives, but there are times such as here when men should not listen to their wives. Whenever the wife tries to tell her husband to go against the direct commandment of God a man should not listen to his wife.  

2. “...and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it…”

 1). When God placed man in the garden He specifically commanded him not to partake of that tree.

a). Genesis 2:15-17 And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.

2:16 And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:

2:17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

3. “…cursed is the ground for thy sake…”

3.  “…in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life.”
