1). Though Herod was a Jew, he was a secular Jew, he only followed the law loosely, so it is not surprising that incorporated within his worldview was some sort of reincarnation. The truth is many folks in the area of Israel, including Jews were ignorant of the law and as a result fell prey to occultic thinking. When Jesus asked his disciples who men thought he was, the answer was much like Herod’s belief.
