While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him.

1. “While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them…”

g. overshadowed [Strong: 1982 episkiázō, ep-ee-skee-ad'-zo; from G1909 and a derivative of G4639; to cast a shade upon, i.e. (by analogy) to envelop in a haze of brilliancy; figuratively, to invest with preternatural influence:—overshadow.]

1). This was the glory cloud of the presence of God.

a). Exodus 40:33-38 And he erected the court round about the tabernacle and the altar and set up the hanging or screen at the court gate. So Moses finished the work.

40:34 Then the cloud [the Shekinah, God’s visible presence] covered the Tent of Meeting, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle!

40:35 And Moses was not able to enter the Tent of Meeting because the cloud remained upon it, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle.

40:36 In all their journeys, whenever the cloud was taken up from over the tabernacle, the Israelites went onward;

40:37 But if the cloud was not taken up, they did not journey on till the day that it was taken up.

40:38 For throughout all their journeys the cloud of the Lord was upon the tabernacle by day, and fire was in it by night, in the sight of all the house of Israel.

b). 1 Kings 8:10, 11 When the priests had come out of the Holy Place, the cloud filled the Lord’s house,

8:11 So the priests could not stand to minister because of the cloud, for the glory of the Lord had filled the Lord’s house.

2. “...and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him.”
