1). Jesus himself handpicked the Apostles after spending the whole night in prayer.
a). Luke 6:12-16 And it came to pass in those days, that he went out into a mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God.
6:13 And when it was day, he called unto him his disciples: and of them he chose twelve, whom also he named apostles;
6:14 Simon, (whom he also named Peter,) and Andrew his brother, James and John, Philip and Bartholomew,
6:15 Matthew and Thomas, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon called Zelotes,
6:16And Judas the brother of James, and Judas Iscariot, which also was the traitor.
2). The most complete record of the sending out of the Apostles is the whole 10th chapter of Matthew. The first 8 verses provide the the scope of their authority.
a). Matthew 10:1-8 And when he had called unto him his twelve disciples, he gave them power against unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease.
10:2 Now the names of the twelve apostles are these; The first, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother;
10:3 Philip, and Bartholomew; Thomas, and Matthew the publican; James the son of Alphaeus, and Lebbaeus, whose surname was Thaddaeus;
10:4 Simon the Canaanite, and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed him.
10:5 These twelve Jesus sent forth, and commanded them, saying, Go not into the way of the Gentiles, and into any city of the Samaritans enter ye not:
10:6 But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
10:7 And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand.
10:8 Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give.
3). Judas participated in healing the sick, casting out devils, raising the dead and cleansing lepers and yet ended up in hell. Jesus gave an ominous warning in Scripture concerning those who call him Lord.
a). Matthew 7:21-27 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
7:22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
7:23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
7:24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:
7:25 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.
7:26 And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand:
7:27 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.
b). Lordship involves doing the word not just hearing it.
4). ) Though the office of Apostle is to continue throughout the Church Age Ephesians 4:8-13, there are only 12 Apostles of the Lamb.
a). Revelation 21:14 And the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and in them the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.
5). The ministry of the twelve will continue through out eternity, judging the 12 tribes of Israel.
a). Matthew 19:28 And Jesus said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That ye which have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of his glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
