Exodus 25:1-9
And
the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,
Speak
unto the children of Israel, that they bring me an offering: of every man that
giveth it willingly with his heart ye shall take my offering.
And
this is the offering which ye shall take of them; gold, and silver, and brass,
And
blue, and purple, and scarlet, and fine linen, and goats' hair,
And
rams' skins dyed red, and badgers' skins, and shittim wood,
Oil
for the light, spices for anointing oil, and for sweet incense,
Onyx
stones, and stones to be set in the ephod, and in the breastplate.
And
let them make me a sanctuary; that I may dwell among them.
According
to all that I shew thee, after the pattern of the tabernacle, and the pattern
of all the instruments thereof, even so shall ye make it.
a. All of the material for the building of
the Tabernacle were free will offerings of the people of Israel. Eventually,
the people brought so much offering that they had too much and Moses had to
tell them to stop.
1). Exodus 36:1-7 Then wrought Bezaleel and Aholiab, and every
wise hearted man, in whom the Lord put wisdom and understanding to know how to
work all manner of work for the service of the sanctuary, according to all that
the Lord had commanded.
And Moses called Bezaleel and Aholiab, and
every wise hearted man, in whose heart the Lord had put wisdom, even every one
whose heart stirred him up to come unto the work to do it:
And they received of Moses all the offering,
which the children of Israel had brought for the work of the service of the
sanctuary, to make it withal. And they brought yet unto him free offerings
every morning.
And all the wise men, that wrought all the
work of the sanctuary, came every man from his work which they made;
And they spake unto Moses, saying, The people
bring much more than enough for the service of the work, which the Lord
commanded to make.
And Moses gave commandment, and they caused
it to be proclaimed throughout the camp, saying, Let neither man nor woman make
any more work for the offering of the sanctuary. So the people were restrained
from bringing.
For the stuff they had was sufficient for all
the work to make it, and too much.
b. All of the material offered by the
children of Israel was given to them by the Egyptians to hasten them to leave
Egypt.
1). Exodus 12:33-36 And the Egyptians were
urgent upon the people, that they might send them out of the land in haste; for
they said, We be all dead men.
And the people took their dough before it was
leavened, their kneadingtroughs being bound up in their clothes upon their
shoulders.
And the children of Israel did according to
the word of Moses; and they borrowed of the Egyptians jewels of silver, and
jewels of gold, and raiment:
And the Lord gave the people favour in the
sight of the Egyptians, so that they lent unto them such things as they
required. And they spoiled the Egyptians.
2). God told Moses the first time He appeared
to him this would happen.
a). Exodus 3:20-22 And I will stretch out my
hand, and smite Egypt with all my wonders which I will do in the midst thereof:
and after that he will let you go.
And I will give this people favour in the
sight of the Egyptians: and it shall come to pass, that, when ye go, ye shall
not go empty.
But every woman shall borrow of her
neighbour, and of her that sojourneth in her house, jewels of silver, and
jewels of gold, and raiment: and ye shall put them upon your sons, and upon
your daughters; and ye shall spoil the Egyptians.
3). Previous to their being delivered from
Egypt, the people of Israel had nothing, they were slaves, which bolsters the
thought that all of the material for the building of the Tabernacle originally
came from Egypt.
